So Long and Thanks For All The Likes

This week was very exciting! The page that I run to accompany this blog reached 1,000,000 likes on Facebook. I thought I’d mention it here as I feel like this is one to write home about and feel very proud of! I haven’t mentioned it on the blog but the number has been increasing steadily over the last few months although I never, ever thought it would reach 1 million. So I just want to say a huge thank you to anyone reading this that likes the page!

For this nail art I created the Nimbus Nail Art over a base of white using Barry M White using Sally Hansen Coral Reef, China Glaze Tart-y For The Party, Models Own Bubblegum and China Glaze Pink-ie Promise.

I added some gold triangle studs from The Nailasaurus Emporium right at the base of the nimbus nails.

The textured glitter on my accent fingers is Barry M Countess from the new(ish) Royal Glitters collection.

Hunger Games: Catching Fire Inspired Nail Art

I’m a huge Hunger Games fan so of course, going to see Catching Fire was on the top of my to-do list last weekend! The second book is my favourite from the trilogy and the film very nearly lives up to the magic of the book.

Throughout the film I kept getting distracted by the outfits that the tributes wear in the arena. The honeycomb pattern, that was most noticeable on the shoulders, with the gradient effect in all those different shades of grey was just calling to me and I kept thinking that it looked identical to one of the designs in the new Bundle Monster set. Before I even left the cinema, I knew exactly how I’d be paying tribute to the movie! This isn’t the most exciting Hunger Games nail art that I’ve created but it’s one of my favourites.

I started with a base of Barry M White. I covered my cuticles with Liquid Palisade to protect them from any mess and created a gradient using Rimmel Grey Matter. There’s a gradient tutorial here.

I added the honeycomb pattern using Rimmel Grey Matter with Bundle Monster Plate BM422.

It’s all topped off with two coats of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.

Pearly Whites

This textured white polish from Barry M is one that I featured in my top 3 holiday nail shades this week on Divine Caroline. I wasn’t a huge fan of it at first but now that the winter and festive season are closing in, I have a new appreciation for the effect it creates. It looks just like freshly fallen snow, with a bit of extra glitter!

I used a coat of China Glaze Dandy Lyin’ Around followed by two coats of Barry M White Pearl for the white accents.

The pink is China Glaze Pink-ie Promise. I added a few 1mm pearls and some stamping from MoYou Sailor Collection 05 plate with BK Matte White polish.

Honeycomb Hands

I’ve been so bad at blogging this week and for that I apologise. I’ve had a strange couple of weeks where nothing much has happened but I’ve just been busy all the time! I’m actually starting a new job tomorrow which is very exciting but means that blog posts may still be scarce for a while. Although it’s not always obvious, my regular posting schedule is Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday and often with extra posts scattered in when I have the time so that’s what I’m trying to get back to!

I created the nimbus nails with a selection of pinks including piCture pOlish Mad Magenta and W7 Baby Pink. Click here for a nimbus tutorial.

I’m also wearing Sally Hansen Green Tea and Barry M Prickly Pear.

The honeycomb pattern is a stamp from Bundle Monster Plate BM422 and I used BK Matt White.

The highlight of my week was going to a firework display yesterday for Guy Fawkes Night. In firework terms, it’s the closest we get to Independence Day in the UK and I was like a little kid at Christmas stood there gawking up at the sky! What does that have to do the nail art, you may be wondering? Well I always think of V for Vendetta on November 5th and today’s nails feature red roses, as does the movie. Can I have that? Oh go on!

For this mani I used Sinful Colors Island Coral as my base. I used more colours for the Nimbus accents than I can list here! I just kept picking out colours and adding them on top to get the effect I wanted. The main ones you see in the mix are Barry M Papaya and Sally Hansen Sun Kissed.

For the rose patterns, I used Barry M Passion Fruit to stamp from MoYou Plate Pro 04 which isn’t on the site any more but you can get the same images on Pro 07 in the XL size.

It’s all topped with two coats of KBShimmer Clearly On Top.

Blue Nimbus Nails

Another day, another Nimbus manicure! I created this blue nimbus as a base for some white stamping as blue and white is one of my favourite colour combos. The plan was to stamp on some chevrons but I messed up that part so you don’t get to see it! Why is it that whenever you spend a long time on nail art, it gets messed up at the last opportunity… after all your hard work! Why couldn’t I have made a mess in the beginning and put the finishing touch on just perfectly?!

For this manicure, I used NYC Raindrop as my base colour and created the nimbus effect using NYC Water Street Blue, Barry M Blue Grape and H+M Midnight Mystery. See here for a tutorial.
It’s all topped off with two coats of Color Club Top Coat.

I have two Halloween manicures that I never got around to posting this month so I thought I would smash them both out today while I still have the chance! The second look will be coming later today.

I got a package from Harlow and Co this week and inside I found an amazing Halloween glitter – KBShimmer You Go Ghoul! It’s a black jelly with purple and orange glitter bits of all shapes and sizes. It’s a shade that you could wear all year round unlike some holiday polishes that are really only suitable for 3 weeks out of the year.

I used two coats of KBShimmer You Go Ghoul! over one of Barry M Plum for the accent nails.

The gradient (tutorial here) was created with a base of Essie Fear and Desire and Barry M Plum. Clean up was a bitch on this one! I didn’t use my trusty liquid pallisade to protect my cuticles and the surrounding areas from the Orange polish which is why there’s a bit of staining there.

I used two top coats of Rica Glossy Glam.
