    Where I mixed the two colours for this gradient in the middle, they swirled together and created a purple section in the middle. This has never happened to me before! I don’t know why I’m so excited about this snippet of basic colour science but I thought it was cool!
    All my waterfalls so far have been fairly subtle, at least compared to this one. I always tried to keeps the base colour and waterfall colours in the same scheme so today I wanted to try something with a bit more contrast that would really stand out. And I like it!

    My base colour is NYC Bubblegum Pink and I created the gradient using a make up sponge and Sally Hansen Himalayan Blue. There’s a tutorial for that here.

    For the waterfall nails, my colours were NYC Pier 17, NYC Raindrop, Sally Hansen Pacific Blue and Sally Hansen Himalayan Blue. You’ll find that tutorial here!
    It’s all topped off with two coats of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat.

    Whiteout

    I went a bit decal crazy this week so today I wanted to stretch my skills a bit today and venture in to a full on freehanded manicure. This is an idea I’ve been holding on to for a while – I wasn’t sure if I could do a whole tribal manicure in one colour without running out of juice but I did it! I love a bit of white on blue action!

    I used Barry M Blueberry and Sally Hansen Water Color as my base colours and freehanded on the tribal print using a nail art brush. It’s all finished with two coats of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat.

    Monochrome Waterfall

    The last thing on my list of must-do waterfall manis was a monochrome creation. This was suggested in the comments on the first ever waterfall mani I posted and I finally got round to it this week! 

    My base colour is China Glaze Dandy Lyin’ Around which is a shimmery creamish white. I thought I’d step away from the Barry M White on this one as it seems I’m using it in almost every manicure recently!
    For the details, I used Rimmel Grey Matter, Sally Hansen Dorian Grey, No7 Just Black and A-England Fated Prince. There’s a tutorial for the waterfall look here.
    I finished it all off with a coat of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat and then one coat of Essence Better Than Gel Nails Top Sealer.

    Fractal Fingertips from Will Paint Nails For Food

    Hi everyone! What an honour it is to be writing for this blog. Thank you Sammy for having me here!

    I had the idea of combining galaxy nails with some sort of fractal design months ago. I’m no expert on the subject but simply put, fractals are complex geometric designs where the small parts are very similar to the larger overall pattern. And there are many connections between galaxies and fractals – some believe the universe is just a large fractal.

    I’m not sure how successfully the accent nail conveys the idea of fractals, however, you can check out the source image HERE .

    Here’s the steps I took for these nails:

    1. I started with a base of Essie Midnight Cami
    2. Using little bits of makeup sponge I slowly built up the colours, first with the blues using piCture pOlish Cosmos, piCture pOlish Pshiiit, Foxy Paws One More Night, and Zoya Crystal
    3. Then I built up the purples with Nicole by OPI Back In My Gloria Days, and Zoya Carly
    4. I added my blacks with Orly Liquid Vinyl and Liquid Sky Lacquer Party All Night
    5. I added the nebula effect with more Zoya Crystal and OPI My Vampire is Buff
    6. I painted the stars with a detail brush and Sally Hansen White On
    7. For the accent nail, the base is the same as the others, only I didn’t add the lighter nebula. The fractal design is painted with OPI My Vampire is Buff and a detail brush.
    8. I finished with two coats of KBShimmer Clearly On Top

    I love galaxy nails because, generally, most people use the same technique, but everyone’s looks different. I tend to use more polishes than necessary, you probably don’t need this many colours.

    Fresh Lookin’ Studs

    Yesterday you guys provided me with inspiration by the bucket load when I asked on Facebook and Instagram which colours you thought I should use with these new mint studs from Born Pretty. The ideas that popped up time and again were purple, green and brown (to make mint choc chip!). I tried the brown idea because it sounded very appetising but I couldn’t make it work so I moved on to option two… something with purple and green.


    The studs are the new 2mm coloured ones from Born Pretty Store and it’s $3.59 for a pack of 200 studs. There are 11 colours ranging from pastels to bright. It’s been a while since I had a good browse of Born Pretty so I’ve been surprised to see the amazing new items they have on offer. I’ve already placed two orders with them this week so I’ve got some square pastel studs on their way too. I can’t wait to play with them!

    1. For the nail art I used a base coat of Barry M White then topped it off with a coat of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat.
    2. Once that was dry, I placed on two strips of striping tape where I wanted the white to show through.
    3. Using the brushes straight from the bottle I very carefully painted on NYC Water Street Blue and Lavender Cupcake between the lines of tape. I removed the tape immediately.
    4. I used a nail art brush to dot a tiny bit of clear nail polish on to my nail where I wanted to stick the studs. I picked up the studs using the same brush while it was sticky and pressed the studs down in to the polish to make them really stick (video here).
    5. The colour on my other fingers is Sally Hansen Green Tea.
    6. I topped it all off with a coat of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat.

    Nonoo Resort 2014 Inspired Nail Art

    Yesterday I was checking out the finalists for 2013’s CDFA/Vogue Fashion Fund at Glamour.com and when I saw the lookbook image from Nonoo’s Resort 2014 collection, my heart skipped a beat. As we all know, I have a weakness for stripes, gradients and anything blue so within seconds I’d decided that it was going on my nails!

    I’m going to try a new way of writing out the steps I took today. I’m hoping a broken down step-by-step is going to be easier to follow than the regular massive paragraph of description!
    1. I used a base of Barry M White and a coat of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat to make it dry a bit quicker.
    2. Using a pair of tweezers, I placed striping tape across all of my nails nail where I wanted the white to peek through.
    3. For the gradient, I used Barry M Grape, Sally Hansen Thinking of Blue, Sally Hansen Pacific Blue and Essie Bikini So Teeny in that order from cuticle to tip.
    Instead of using my normal gradient technique, I painted the colours straight on to the sponge. I then dabbed it on to a sheet of plastic to blend the colours slightly before sponging it on to my nail, one nail at a time.
    4. Straight after sponging on the gradient, I peeled the tape off my nail and moved on to the next.
    5. Once it was all dry, I added two coats of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat to smooth everything over.

    Fiery Waterfall

    So it seems you guys like the waterfall mani as much as I do! Thank you for letting me know your amazing ideas for colours. I’ve noted them all down and will be trying them out asap!
    The weather today has been insane. I’ve spent half the day moving around at quarter speed and the other half laid down completely still with a fan pointed at me trying to cool off! I’m really not one for this scorching heat… when it gets to May I’m always like, ‘Hmmm this isn’t too bad. Maybe I like summer now’, but as soon as July hits I remember the torture and start counting down the days to October!

    For this nail art I used Sally Hansen Crinolin, a super pale pink, as my base colour then painted on streaks of Barry M Papaya, Essie Lollipop, NYC Lexington Yellow and NYC Full Metal Jacket.
    I topped it with two coats of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat.
