It’s My Birthday and I’ll Blog If I Want To

Yep, today is my Birthday! It’s just a quick post to show you one of my favourite combinations of late. I’ve been wearing a lot of glitter and found the perfect pairing with Sally Hansen Big Money and China Glaze Tart-y for the Party. The little purple hexes in Big Money perfectly compliment the lilac purple.

There’s a (not so subtle) clue in the mani…. can you guess how old I am today?

Louder Than God’s Revolver and Twice as Shiny

I think neon is going to be a big trend this summer and while I can’t see much of it making its way in to my wardrobe, I’m more than happy to wear it on my nails… in moderation!

The nude base colour is Cult Nails Cruisin Nude and I used a base of Barry M White underneath the neon which is Born Pretty’s UV polish #15.
I painted on the black frames using a nail art brush with Sally Hansen Blackout.

Grue Gradient

Whenever I’m stuck for ideas I always come back to the gradients. I don’t care if they’re so last year, I just love them!

I used Sally Hansen Green Tea as my base colour then created the gradient using this tutorial with Barry M Light Blue. It’s topped with one coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri.

Winstonia Plates

More Winstonia experiments today! My favourite design from the pack is without a doubt that one that looks like loads of rainbows piled on top of each other. It reminds me of the patterns that were plastered on to the ceilings of the house I grew up in that I used to spend hours marvelling at. I never could figure out how they got those patterns up there!

This manicure is from way back in January and was created in the midst of my Pastel Pink obsession but for whatever reason I didn’t post it at the time. I love this stud arrangement – it’s definitely going in the brain bank for the future!

I used Sally Hansen Crinoline as my base colour, the tattoos are from the His set at bigRuby. I used some bullion/caviar for the studs and painted on W7 Cosmic Mauve with a nail art brush for the glitter half moon.

I don’t remember exactly what top coat I used but it was probably two coats of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri.

Born Pretty Spikes

We all know that I have a penchant for studs. Whether it’s clothes, nails or shoes – if it’s got studs on, I’ll be there drooling all over it. The next logical step is spikes and Born Pretty have started stocking nail sized ones! They’re available in gold and silver and come in packs of 10 for $0.99 or 100 for £7.99.

I used clear nail polish to attach these to my nail. I just used a nail art brush to dab a spot on where I wanted them and stuck them on. I tried using tweezers but with all those smooth, glossy, rounded surfaces there was no hope of getting a good hold so I just used my fingers.

My base colours are A-England Lancelot and Sally Hansen Green Tea. I top coated it all with a coat of Sally Hansen Insta Dri before quickly applying Born Pretty’s 2mm square studs to create the little cross on my index finger. The spikes* are also from Born Pretty here.

Blanket Case

I have a bit of a thing for blankets. I just love curling up underneath one on a Sunday night while I’m watching whatever ITV drama is on at the time (at the moment, it’s Mr Selfridge!). A few weeks ago, I bought the BEST blanket, it’s fleecy on one side and felt on the other with a lovely fair isle pattern. I love it so much, I had to do nails inspired by it!

I used Barry M White, Sally Hansen Plum Luck and Rimmel Grey Matter as my main colours with a nail art brush. I also used white acrylic paint for some of the small details such as drawing on the snowflake design and neatening up my lines.

Finally, I topped it with two coats of NYC.
