Festive Fingertips

I popped in to town a few days to go thinking I would pick up a new matte top coat as my Essie Matte About You ran out a long time ago and I never got round to replacing it. What a near impossible mission that turned out to be! I tried Boots and Superdrug as I was almost certain 17 and GOSH both had their own matte top coats but Rimmel came out on top as the only one available.

I also picked up Heart on Fire, this bright creme red. It’s my favourite red creme without a doubt. I always find they’re too runny or leave stains all over my cuticles when I remove them. Well, this one is opaque in two coats and left absolutely no staining. WIN.

I used two coats of Rimmel Heart on Fire as my base coat and stamped on the design from Bundle Monster Plate BM323 using Sally Hansen InstaDri Whirlwind White. I added some glequins from Born Pretty Store and finished it with a coat of Rimmel’s Mattifying Top Coat.

31DC2012 Day 29: Inspired by the Supernatural

This challenge has really gone belly up recently! We started out so well but unlike last year, when we were so regimented and determined, we’ve gone way off track and are all behind schedule. However, I’m determined to complete it before the end of the year if it kills me (which I’m sure it won’t, I’m just being melodramatic). I’m thinking of it as my end of year resolution! There are actually only 3 days left so I’d have to be reallllly lazy not to get it finished wouldn’t I?!

I spent so much time stressing about this challenge but in the end I just went for the obvious again to get it over and done with. It’s actually exactly the same as last year, I even used the same polish to stamp with!

I used 3 coats of Deborah Lippmann Fashion* as my base colour and stamped on the ghosts from Bundle Monster plate BM223 using Sally Hansen InstaDri Whirlwind White. I used two coats of NYC Top Coat for the glassy finish.

Christmas is Coming

It feels like someone flipped a switch yesterday which just made everyone go mental! Suddenly everyone has gone crazy for Christmas so I thought I may as well leap in to the mania head first and get started on some Christmas manis. I’m sure there will be more to come, I just thought I should ease myself in today with something mildly festive!

I started with one coat of PVA Glue (I know it sounds insane, but it makes removing the glitter so much easier). Once that was dry, I used 3 coats of Sally Hansen Gilded Lily* and stamped on a swirly design from Bundle Monster Plate BM314 using Sally Hanses InstaDri in Rapid Red.

31DC2012: Day 21 Inspired by a Color

Day 20 of the challenge is a bit late. This is definitely the strangest day of the challenge, a color is a very simple thing to find inspiration in so I kind of got lazy and just went for a purple ombre. So I guess you could say I was kind of inspired by purple?! I’ve never actually done an ombre manicure before and I really struggled to find the right colours for this one.

I topped it off with a top coat of Seche Vite. My first bottle is starting to get thick and I can see the shrinkage problem starting to take hold!

31DC2012: Day 20 Water Marbling

I’ve never made any secret of the fact that I despise water marbling and in the last 2 years, I’ve only done it twice when it was part of a challenge. Well as much as I hate it and totally wanted to duck out of this day, I ain’t no quitter! So last night, I put my big girl boots on and knuckled down to business.

I went in to this knowing that I would only be doing one accent nail. It’s insane how much this technique has stressed me out in the past and I’m quite a level headed person! I took precautionary measures and promised myself that as soon as I did one nail satisfactorily, I’d be finished so I didn’t end up pulling my hair out this time!

Rie and Cris have both done amazing jobs with their water marbles today. Go check ’em out!

I used Sally Hansen Ion* as a base colour and created the water marble with Barry M Watermelon and Blueberry from the Gelly range. My index finger is Barry M Blueberry and I used one coat of Seche Vite to top it all off.

31DC2012: Day 19 Galaxy Nails

Day 19 of the challenge calls for some galaxy nails! I saw this drippy galaxy design on Very Emily and traced it back to Starlett Approved. I heart galaxy nails pretty hard and wish I could muster the effort to create them more often. Saying that, they’re so easy. You literally just need a sponge and some sparkly colours! There’s a great tutorial and an amazing galaxy look to be found here at Coewless Polish.

With Sally Hansen Ion*, I used a nail art brush to draw on the drips and stars. Then I added a highlight to the drips with Rimmel Pearly Queen and placed on a few holographic glequins before topping it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite.

31DC2012: Day 17 Glitter

We all like the way glitter looks. Even I like the way it looks and believe me when I say I’m the biggest glitterphobe going! I’ve linked to this video before, but it really does sum up my feelings towards loose glitter perfectly. As soon as you get one little flake on you, it’s everywhere!
Of course, glitter polish is slightly different but it comes with its own difficulties. Most notably it’s a pain in the butt to remove. There used to be the foil removal method but recently, people have been talking about a new way to remove it. Well, technically it’s a new way to apply it so that it comes off in one swoop. Basically, you just use PVA Glue instead of your base coat. I won’t go in to it too much because other brilliant bloggers already have so if you want to know more, you should read these posts at Pretty Purple Polish and Lab Muffin.

I’ve had these colours from the Sally Hansen Gem Crush Collection* for a while but I’ve been putting off wearing them because I didn’t want the hassle of removal. Now that’s not an issue, I couldn’t decide which one I to wear, so I just decided on 4 of them! The colours are Glitz Gal (Grey/Silver), Lady Luck (Pink), Be-Jeweled (Purple) and Big Money (Gold).

I used 3 coats of each straight on to my nails and they’ve given complete coverage. Also… so much sparkle! I topped it off with 2 coats of Seche Vite and it was still a bit bumpy but

You can see how the PVA base works. It lets you peel off pretty much the whole nail of polish in one go. No more scrubbing or soaking. I’ll definitely be wearing glitter more often now that I won’t have to dread the removal!
