    31 Day Challenge: Stripes

I’m a day behind on the 31 Day Challenge but determined to catch up over the weekend! These are my stripe nails for Day 12 (yesterday) inspired by Globe & Nail. When I was scrolling through piCture pOlish’s Instagram profile at all the amazing manis created with Nail Vinyls, Emma’s just really stood out to me so I was chuffed when I realised I had everything I would need to recreate it.

    31 Day Challenge: Blue

Turquoise Nail Art with piCture pOlish Fool's Gold

I had a total fangirl freak out when Oh My Gosh, Polish! posted a beautiful turquoise mani with my piCture pOlish shade, Fool’s Gold, a few days ago. You can see that masterpiece right here. She mentioned that it was the perfect shade for a turquoise mani as there’s already gold in the polish, so you can skip a step when doing the nail art.
With today’s Blue prompt coming up, I thought I’d do my best to recreate the turquoise manicure. I have tried before and always failed miserably but this time went a little better. I had to do a bit of trial and error to find a nail polish and spray combination that worked but then I was away. It’s a little heavier on the black than I would have liked but I’ll keep trying with different combinations until I get it just right!
You can watch Oh My Gosh, Polish!’s tutorial for this nail art on her YouTube channel. I just love the way ‘Nailasaurus’ sounds in the Australian accent. It’s quite a novelty to hear it spoken by anyone as whenever I talk about it with people IRL, they normally refer to it as ‘your blog’ and I always say ‘my blog’. I know it’s a bit of a mouthful so maybe people avoid saying it in front of me in case they mess it up. I pronounce it nail-uh-sore-us but there’s really no wrong way to say it!

Introducing my piCture pOlish shade… Fool’s Gold

piCture pOlish Fool's Gold by The Nailasaurus Swatch

    piCture pOlish Fool's Gold Swatch
I first knew about this project a little over a year ago but I had to keep it hush! The shade itself has been in the works for almost 9 months so after all that time holding the secret in, I’m so thrilled to be announcing my collaboration shade with piCture pOlish… Fool’s Gold.

    My Inspiration

When piCture pOlish asked if I’d like to work on a collaboration shade (like that’s even a question?!?!) I had a few ideas in mind that I’d been storing away in case I ever got the chance to create my own nail polish. In the end I settled on a turquoise with gold glitter. I wanted it to look like flecks of gold as seen through deep, tropical waters and the result is absolutely on point! The blue base is very pigmented but still has a smooth, jelly-like consistency that allows for the gold glitter and shimmer to peek through.

I came up with the name but the ladies at piCture pOlish helped me out with the tagline as my solo efforts were somewhat less than inspired. I think the one we decided on – it’s a keeper… a real treasure –  is really fitting for this polish. I sure think it’s a keeper at least!

    Wearing the Polish

As for the polish itself, it has piCture pOlish’s standard 5-free formula and the base leans towards a jelly but is more pigmented than a true jelly. You can quite easily get it opaque with two thick coats or three thin ones – I used three thin coats for this swatch with a top coat. Thanks to the insanely smooth formula, you can even use it as a topper over another polish. So far I’ve discovered it looks great over white and blue. And finally – it’s not gonna stain your nails! I know staining can be an issue with many turquoise and other blue shades so I’m very happy that noone will be suffering because of me.

Fool’s Gold is everything I hoped for and more. It’s a shade that has spent years living in my head so it’s surreal and incredible to see it so perfectly crafted in real life. The team at piCture pOlish got it right on the very first try – they’re truly masters of colour to have created this beauty from nothing but a few pictures and a brief description of the way I envisioned the polish. I think it’s a fresh and unique glitter polish and I really hope that you guys are as blown away as I was when I first laid eyes on it!

    The £2 Flakie Duochrome

2true Shade No. 02 Swatch // Clear Sparkle

Exactly one week ago, I received an email from a lovely lady named Lynzi who reads this blog who wanted to let me know about a very interesting polish she has in her collection and described it as looking like ‘mother of pearl or white opals’. I’m always on the look out for interesting and unique nail polishes so I was very intrigued and asked for a little more information on the polish.
Turns out it’s made by a brand called 2true which is exclusive to Superdrug. I’ve bought 2true polishes before – it’s a very purse friendly brand and the polishes are really great for that price point. I picked up a bottle for myself this weekend and couldn’t wait to swatch it!

The name on the bottle is ‘Shade No. 02‘ but on the website, it’s been given the generic descriptive name of Clear Sparkle. Seeing nail polish given numbers instead of names is a real pet-peeve of mine since a name can add so much to the appeal of a polish (or any beauty product in fact) and do wonders for the marketing *ahem, Nars Orgasm*. Whenever I see a shade that has a pun for its name, I feel like I have to buy it whether or not I like the product just because I love puns so much. Anyway, that’s a conversation for another time!

You could wear this shade on its own if you want to add a sparkly finish to your natural nails but you’ll never get it opaque. I swatched it over blackto bring out all of the different textures. There is silver glitter in there along with multichrome flakie bits that shift between purple, blue and pink.
It gives a very rich and opulent finish that I’ve never come across in a £2 bottle of nail polish before and it could probably be compared to a number of more exclusive, expensive polishes. The closest match that I own is piCture pOlish Altered State. Scroll down to see a side-by-side comparison.

    Where to buy 2true

Shade No. 02 / Clear Sparkle is available from Superdrug online and in stores nationwide. RRP £1.99.
Select products are 3 for £5.

Is it a dupe for piCture pOlish Altered State?

piCture pOlish Altered State Limited Edition Swatch
Altered State is a limited edition shade from piCture pOlish released in February 2014. Currently, it’s still available on the website but when it’s gone, it’s gone! I swatched the whole collection of Limited Edition colour shifting shades back in February.
Altered State is more of in indigo purple and the colour shift is a lot more subtle. The glitter in No. 02 is slightly chunkier (although not chunky by general glitter standards) whereas in Altered State it’s very fine and holographic. There are no flakie pieces in Altered State which is what gives No. 02 its duochrome quality.
I think Altered State is an all around more refined polish and while anyone can see they’re not exactly the same, there is a hint of similarity and you may be able to fool an untrained eye!
So, is No. 02 a dupe for Altered State? No, not really. But it’s a very good alternative!

    MoYou Hipster Stamping Nail Art

Have I ever told you that I really love MoYou London stamping plates? Wait.. what do you mean, I’ve already told you dozens of times? Well it’s absolutely true. These designs are both from a plate in the Hipster collection and I can’t wait to try out the rest of the designs on the plate. It’s times like these I wish I had 18 fingers so I could use every pattern at once.

Alexander McQueen S/S15 Inspired Nail Art

I spent a few hours last night browsing the Vogue galleries. Fashion never fails to provide mountains if inspiration for nail art so whenever I’m feeling a bit low on creativity, these talented designers can always spark something. Sometimes I find a piece I love in 2 minutes, sometimes it takes 2 hours! It took me quite a while to come across this beautiful dress from Alexander McQueen’s SS15 lookbook but it was nail art at first sight!
It’s been so long since I did intricate freehand nail art that I almost feel like I’ve lost the ability. Florals are always a good way to ease in to freehand nails and this pattern is the perfect mix of simple shapes with elements that are a bit trickier. My confidence has been restored a little and I’m going to build up to more adventurous freehand nail art.
I didn’t lay down a base colour for this nail art, just painted it straight on to my bare (base coated) nails which was a first for me. I started by painting on the outline of the flower with Barry M’s nail art pen and then used a nail art brush to add the colour. Finally, I painted the dark plum on the bare bits and topped it all with HK Girl.
