Today I have another textured polish on my nails and it's perhaps the first one that caused a lot of buzz among nail polish fans... Nails Inc's Black Leather Effect*.
As a nail crazed lover of anything black and leather, this is one that I couldn't wait to get my hands on. Or should I say on my hands?! I was sceptical about whether it would actually look like leather on the nails since I never trust promo shots but the more I look at it, the more I believe I'm wearing leather on my fingers.
I'm so impressed with the consistency of this polish, there was no gloopiness and it just swiped on perfectly in two coats. It dries to a matte finish and it's recommended that you don't use a top coat but of course I had to try... for review purposes of course, not just because I felt rebellious!
The polish comes in a kit with nail glue, an orange stick and 4 embellished skulls (which can be reused if you clean them carefully with a little bit of acetone).
I applied a top coat of Seche Vite to every nail except for my pointer finger which has kind of glossed them over and made them lose most of the leathery effect. I definitely prefer it without.
On my pointer, I used one coat of NYC In A New York Minute to attach the studs. This top coat is much thinner than the Seche Vite so it sank in to the Leather Effect pretty well.
I attached the skull using tweezers and a little bit of nail glue on the back of his head and chin. The skulls are not something I'd wear day-to-day but next time there's a special occasion, you can bet I'll be rocking one of these bad boys on each hand!
This polish is only available in the 'Bling It On' set and the retail price seems to float somewhere around £20/$25.
After a bit of searching, the cheapest price I've found here in the UK is £19 at Very. It's also available from Littlewoods who I was amazed to find have a brilliant selection of nail polish including OPI and Butter London.

This is a nice new idea...and it doesn't look bad with a top coat over it, although, I think I prefer it without, as you do.
ReplyDeleteHa I blogged about this polish today too! My look was similar to yours. I love this I wish the topcoat didn't hurt it so much though...imagine PATENT LEATHER nails!
ReplyDeleteApart from that...love this polish! And love your pics of it!
Ok, this is one texture-trend polish I can get behind. NOT a fan of the "liquid sand" stuff. Just looks messy/goosebumpy to me! But leather, mmm yes!
ReplyDeleteI just love this polish the first time I saw it. Hate the skulls, though. It's just not for me. Sad thing the polish only comes with those and makes it even pricier. I would love to get this polish, I love the finish, the whole look. Hmpf.
ReplyDeleteGot two Mariah Carey Liq. Sands, though...but the leather thingie seems to be quite a bit smoother.
Ditto to everything you just said - I want the polish but not all the other crap - I can buy that anywhere, and it makes it prohbitively expensive, esp for me in the US.
DeleteI looks awesome, but I prefer it with topcoat! x
ReplyDeleteI love this look! Reminds me of my punk days :]
ReplyDeleteI like this with and without topcoat! Interesting effect!
ReplyDeleteI swatched this at Sephora, and I really love the finish. I hope there's a drugstore polish with a similar finish soon, I don't want to splurge for this one - but I'm considering it.
ReplyDeleteThe cheapestway I found it was using a discount code direct from Nails Inc. I was really impressed with Littlewoods polish selection too!
ReplyDeleteI need this in my life. I like both with & without topcoat, however without gives it that something special. I freaking love the blinged out finish!
ReplyDeleteIt looks awesome! However I like it better with a topcoat on it :)

Omgggg, so pretty! Such a bad ass polish ahhaha, and I love those skulls <3
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I like this look a lot! I think it looks great with the studs too.
ReplyDeletelooks great! I love the studs with it
ReplyDeletethis looks so cool! its a perfect effect with the sculls - totally biker chic!
ReplyDeleteThe more I see this, the more I really really like the leather effect. Even with the top coat on it looks nice, but I definitely agree that it looks better without! It's such an edgy look that's really growing on me. Thanks for the swatches!
ReplyDeleteI need this polish in my life!
ReplyDeleteI think out of all the different "textures" I like this one the best. It looks edgy without being over the top.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is very good because good information on all described products.
ReplyDeleteThis is, I think, the only textured polish I'm going to buy.
ReplyDeleteI don't like this look - especially with the skull and studs attached. I just prefer a less grungy look I guess - but this leather effect polish with the skulls and studs on doesn't fit everyone.
ReplyDeleteOh wow it looks great! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this mani!! This polish is perfect!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is some badass manicure! I love it!
ReplyDeleteahh I have soo wanted to buy this and try it out. Your nails look amazing.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is sexy! I need to do this as soon as it's warm enough to start riding the motorbike again :D
ReplyDeleteOmg, this looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteOMG. That is the coolest! I am in love with that!
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing. I love the texture and I adore the skull bling :) xx
ReplyDeleteThis is so bad-ass! I just love it!!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering which top coat you prefer? Seche Vite or NYC In A New York Minute? I just started following your blog but I had found your 7 step guide to paint your nails on pinterest a few months ago. I quickly went to purchase NYC In A New York Minute and I love it, but just noticed that you also use Seche Vite.
ReplyDeletevery nice. ;)
