NY Fashionail Week Day 2: The Blonds

Today’s fashion week inspired nail art comes from The Blonds show and was created by CND’s Kristina Estabrooks which you can see here. The theme on the catwalk was ‘Psycho Beach Party’ and there were a few nail looks but this one, Shark Bites, is my favourite of the bunch!

I used W7 Black as my base colour and Models Own Utopia for the ‘bites’ which I applied with a striping brush. I finished it off with two coats of Essence Better Than Gel.

NY Fashionail Week! Monika Chiang

Welcome to my first theme week for a long time – NY Fashionail Week! The plan is to create 5 looks based on the catwalk looks created for some of New York Fashion Week SS13’s runway shows.

I’ve started simple today with a design from Monika Chiang‘s show created by Lancôme which you can see here – coral with a silver stripe down the middle. Don’t worry, your eyes are not deceiving you, my stripes are actually bright yellow gold. They were silver but as soon as I applied my top coat, something happened and they immediately changed colour to this. I actually like it better than silver, it’s way more summery!

I used one coat of Jay Jays Ablaze and one of W7 Flaming Orange, which is an almost jelly, to create the perfect coral base colour. Then I took my striping brush and freehanded on the stripes in Barry M Silver Foil. Finally, I used one top coat of Essence Better Than Gel Nails which magically changed the silver to gold!

W7 Salt n Pepper Swatch

This is the second interesting polish from my Nail Polish Direct order that I mentioned last week, W7’s Salt N Pepper. I think it’s odd that this polish is part of the summer collection as it looks quite wintery to me. It practically looks like snow on my nails! Either way, I still love it and it’s the perfect way to wear white polish without it looking like you just Tipp-Exxed your nails!

I used four coats for these swatches followed by two top coats of NYC. It was silly of me not to use a plain white base first, but I wanted to give the polish a proper try to see how many coats it would take by itself.

I can’t find Salt and Pepper on the site any more but here is a link to W7’s Summer Collection where they still have the other two glitter polishes – Mosaic and Lava Flow.

Playstation Nail Art

I find I have less time to do intricate and basically ‘cool’ nail art these days. I don’t really have much to say about them except that I think they’re awesome. Enjoy!

I used W7 Black as a base and painted on all the details using acrylic paint and a striping brush. Finished off with two coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

Purple Paradise Skittle Manicure

I haven’t been my usual unproductive self this evening. I’ve managed to book my coach to London on Saturday for The Nails Show, make a YouTube video AND paint this design on my nails! I’ve literally been dropping off to sleep all day in the most inconvenient places, so I was determined to get an early night but that idea went out the window as soon as I hit the internet!

This is my new W7 Purple Paradise that I was telling you about yesterday. Although it’s a brand new bottle, it’s not a new shade to me as I’ve been in love with it for years and this is my fourth bottle!

The leopard print from Bundle Monster Plate BM221 and the tribal print are Barry M Lilac Foil. For the gradient and heart design from Red Angel Plate RA114 I used A-England Princess Tears.
The holographic glequins are from Born Pretty Store and I used two top coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

W7 Mosaic Swatch and Review

W7 is a brand that I’ve loved for a very very long time. I’m all about the budget brands and I really think that W7 is the best budget brand out there. It also happens to be one of my top 5 brands EVER! I’ve just looked through my archives to see how far me and W7 go back. Amazingly, W7 Black was one of the polishes I used on the very first day of The Nailasaurus’ existence, so I guess you could say there’s some history there!

The polishes retail for around £2 but special ones like the shatters cost a little more. The brand isn’t sold in any of the normal places you’d look for polish in Britain such as Superdrug and Boots but I nearly always see it in The Original Factory Shop and BM Bargains. Even in those places that do stock it, it’s always uncertain whether you will actually find a full collection on the shelves or just odds and ends that have been dug out of a corner in the stockroom!

Recently, Nail Stories posted a swatch of one of W7’s new polishes that she found on Nail Polish Direct so of course I had to check out the site. There are literally hundreds of W7 polishes on there! I never really buy nail polish online but I got so excited when I saw these that I just went for it. I ordered two of these interesting glittery polishes – Mosaic and Salt N Pepper and even ordered my fourth bottle of W7 Purple Paradise which just so happens to be my favourite polish of all time. I think. I really need to make a definitive list and get it laminated!

Mosaic is a blue jelly base packed with Dark Blue and Gold Glitter. I used 4 coats for full coverage which is a bit of a chore. In the future, I’d probably use a layer of colour before applying this glitter polish just to keep the coats to a minimum. It dries quite bumpy so lots of top coat is needed.

It is a glitter polish so I was expecting it to put up a bit of a fight – lots of coats, patchy coverage – but I still love it and for the unique effect it gives, it’s easy to get over those little hiccups. I love that it looks like a jelly sandwich but it all came out of one bottle! Also, it’s blue = WIN!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

I found out today that I made it on to the shortlist for the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards 2012! It really is all thanks to you guys. Thank you to everyone that put in a nomination for me, I love you all so much! I’m even getting a little teary eyed writing this *le cry*!

If you would like to vote for me, you can do so on the Cosmo website and I’m in the Established Beauty Blog category. I’m not getting my hopes up for the win but I’m really overjoyed just to be on the list! I say this all the time (and I still find it hard to fully articulate my feelings on the subject) but when I started this blog I never imagined it would evolve in to the one you’re reading today but I’m so glad that it has. To be receiving such recognition for doing something that I love is just overwhelming. Once again, thank you!

Today’s nail art is something I’ve had in mind for a long time, well the basic premise anyway. I knew I wanted to do naked half-moons but I didn’t know how I would dress them up. As hard as I try, I can’t shake this glequin obsession so I’m just going to keep rolling with it!

Half Moon and Glitter by The Nailasaurus

I did not use a ‘base colour’. I just used my base coat (Cult Nails Get It On) and waited for that to dry before using some hole reinforcers to mark of the half moons at the base of my nails. I painted a coat of W7 Black on each nail and quickly removed the hole reinforcers. I used a striping brush with W7 Black to neaten up any mistakes and let it all dry.

To attach the glequins, I painted on a coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast and used a sticky toothpick to place them while that was still tacky.

Finally, I added another coat of wicked fast and that was that!
