    31DC2012: Day 3 Yellow Nails

Yellow isn’t one of those colours I just have lying around. I have a grand total of two yellow nail polishes in the drawer, up one whole bottle on last year
I’m being kinda harsh, I actually really like this shade from NYC which is called Lexington Yellow. So much so that I’ve nearly used up the bottle and will definitely be repurchasing it. It’s not an In Your Face neon yellow, it’s just subtle enough to pass for a pastel and when you add some nail art it becomes positively pretty.
I wonder if Cris and Rie have a better collection of yellows than I do!

I used two coats of NYC Lexington Yellow as my base. I added some glequins on my ring finger and two coats of Ozotic 530 on the index. I topped it off with two coats of Sally Hansen Advanced Hard as Nails.

    Galaxy Nails!

I’ve been meaning to do some galaxy nails for aaaaages! Whenever I’m in the process of doing this nail art, I’m always super disappointed with the way it looks so sometimes I give up before I’ve even finished. I have to remember that it never looks good until that final layer of glitter goes on and you take a proper look at them from further away.

The base colour is Look Beauty’s Nail Pop in Glamrock and the colours I used for sponging are Barry M White, Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream and A-England Princess Tears.
I used NYC Starry Silver Glitter for some extra cosmicness and finally added some Holographic Glequins before applying my Cult Nails Wicked Fast top c

    Superheroes Challenge: Ultimate Hero… Wolverine

I scored myself a great job this week which is very exciting but it’s been a shock to the system to go from unemployment to full time work! I’m really tired so I’ll just drop this here without too much explanation and go to bed. Kthanxbai!

    Superheroes Challenge: Marvel Hero… Wasp!

So we’ve seen the Villain and today, Marvel’s hero is riding, or should I say flying, in to save the day! I know that Venom is Spider-Man’s arch enemy but I’ve done Spider-Man nail art in the past so I thought I’d try something new today. I’ve actually done most of the popular Marvel heroes before (Marvel even has it’s own tag!) so I had to reach a bit further than the Hollywood blockbusters for today’s nail art.
I chose to do Wasp, aka Janet Van Dyne. Some of you might recognise her from one of the Avengers cartoon series. I know that’s where I first saw her and when I was coming up with ideas for today’s nail art, I had an idea for her immediately! The wings came out better than I expected since I had the idea to make them pearly right at the last second and it definitely makes them more convincing as wasp wings!

I used NYC Lexington Yellow and Cult Nails Cruisin Nude as my base colours. All the black detail is done with a small nail art brush and black acrylic paint. Finally, I used Rimmel Daisy Chain to go over the wings and give them that delicate, pearly effect.
I finished it all of with two coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

Shoot over to these blogs to see what the other ladies came up with today!

    Mish Mash

I mentioned my lack of inspiration yesterday and straight after I published that post I decided to just go for it! I sat there and just did the first things that came to my head so I ended up with a mish mash of designs.

My base colour is NYC Flat Iron Green and the freehand stuff is Barry M Gold Foil and GOSH Metallic Green. The chain is stuck on with clear polish and the gold striping tape is from eBay (here). I finished it all off with a top coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

Wibble Wobble, Polish on a Plate

Fun fact – In the UK (as opposed to the US), Jello is called Jelly and Jelly is called Jam. Wrap your brain around that for a second! Also, have some context for the title.

This is my first ever Jelly sandwich! It just seemed to slot together this week after I got my first ‘proper’ jelly in a package from the States and spotted this multi glitter in The Original Factory Shop yesterday.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with jelly sandwiches, the process involves layers of jelly polish and layers of glitter or other special kinds of polish painted alternatively on the nails so the glitter looks buried underneath.
I didn’t get too overzealous with layering on this one because I didn’t want a mani that would take five hours to dry! I kind of cheated and used a crème first to cut down on the amount of coats I’d need to get it opaque. You can find all the details of the polishes and the order I used them in down the page a little.

You may also notice my funky new watermarks. I finally figured out how to get text to follow a curve in Photoshop so I had a good time playing with that effect. I’m not sure if I’ll be keeping them this way because it takes much longer than just stamping on the straight version but for now, they’re lots of fun! I’d like to know what you think if them, do they detract from the pictures or do you prefer the way they’re integrated instead of randomly placed?

    Gradient Nails Part Trois

It’s just a quick one tonight as it’s already past 1am and I’m hella sleepy!
I hope you’re not sick of the gradients yet, I’m certainly not and I’m having a great time trying it out with different colour combinations. So far I’ve tried Pink and Girly, Bright and Fruity and today is Soft and Neutral. I think it’s my favourite combo so far!

I used E.L.F Desert Haze as a base and then NYC Lexington Yellow following this tutorial. The top coat I used to glaze it is so thick, it’s practically a solid so it’s bubbled like crazy but the bubbles are not at all noticeable in real life unless you look very, very closely!
