Steven Tyler Nail Art. Yes, that guy from Aerosmith!

I was watching the MTV Movie Awards today and, of course, paying special attention to all the celebrities’ nails! Can you believe the ones that stood out to me the most were Steven Tyler’s, of all people? I noticed he was rocking some simple black and greige nail art and I knew I had to recreate it straight away.

I spent a bit of time searching for a picture, and it would seem that his signature look. You can see some good pictures of his nails here and here. All I can say is, what a dude! How many guys do you know that could rock a nice bit of nail art? But then I suppose not all guys are rock stars that can pretty much do whatever the eff they want!

My base colour is E.L.F. Desert Haze and I used a striping brush and W7 Black to create the stripes and then added my own little flair by accenting it all with some Barry M Silver Foil.

Gradient Nails Part Trois

It’s just a quick one tonight as it’s already past 1am and I’m hella sleepy!

I hope you’re not sick of the gradients yet, I’m certainly not and I’m having a great time trying it out with different colour combinations. So far I’ve tried Pink and Girly, Bright and Fruity and today is Soft and Neutral. I think it’s my favourite combo so far!

I used E.L.F Desert Haze as a base and then NYC Lexington Yellow following this tutorial. The top coat I used to glaze it is so thick, it’s practically a solid so it’s bubbled like crazy but the bubbles are not at all noticeable in real life unless you look very, very closely!

Stud Stripe Square

It’s no secret that I love studs. Especially ones I can wear on my nails! Born Pretty Store is my one stop shop for nail studs. Their selection has grown a lot since I bought my first bag – they now have all shapes and sizes and because it’s Born Pretty, I know I’m getting a bargain. The most exciting addition for me was these square studs. I’ve seen them used before but couldn’t find them anywhere, until Emily alerted me to them on Born Pretty!

The blue and nude isn’t a colour combination that I would have thought to use but I’ve been seeing it all over Tumblr recently and it definitely works!

I used two coats of Cult Nails Cruisin’ Nude as a base, then used a striping brush to paint on the stripes using Barry M Cyan Blue. I placed the studs* using a toothpick dipped in clear polish while the blue was still tacky and pushed them gently down in to the polish. All finished with two top coats of NYC.

Classic But Not

Since my Lana Del Rey inspired manicure [here], I’ve been completely obsessed with the combination of nude and red polish. Although I think this mani could have used a bit of bling, I still love it!

The base colour is Cult Nails Cruisin Nude and I used a nail art brush to paint on the tips with La Femme Cherry Red and the lines with W7 Black.

Sorry about the variations in colouring of the pictures, my camera’s white balance function seems to be going through a rough patch!

Lana Del Rey Inspired Nail Art

The video for Lana Del Rey’s new single, Born To Die, was released on Wednesday and I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve been listening to the song on repeat ever since I first heard it (apart from the hours I spent at work or sleeping). This chick is just gorgeous and she’s my hair idol. Mine WILL look like that one day!

Lana’s nails in the video are so sexy. These were the best screen shots I could get of the nails but you can watch the stunning video in full here.

I used Cult Nails Cruisin’ Nude as a base then freehanded the chevrons with La Femme Cherry Red (3rd day in a row I’ve used this shade!) using a striping brush.

I used Barry M Gold Foil with a smaller striping brush to freehand the gold lines.

If you don’t have steady, line drawing hands, you can use scotch tape to mark off the area you want to paint red, just make sure your base colour is completely dry before you go sticking tape on your nails.

Movember Nail Art

Has everyone heard of Movember? It’s a great initiative that runs throughout the month of November to raise funds and awareness for some too often ignored men’s health issues, and more specifically protate cancer and other cancers that affect the male proportion of the population.

Guys (or Mo Bros) are encouraged to start the month clean shaven and spend the next 30 days grooming their moustache to perfection, but I know a lot of gentlemen prefer to abstain from any form of grooming instead of going for the perfectly preened moustache!

I’ve seen a lot of pictures of Movember nails this month, but I think I’ve managed to trace the idea back to cutepolish on YouTube. You can see her original video for creating moustaches on your nails here.

I thought I’d add my own touch to this mani so I’ve used a few different Mo designs!

I used the always classic Cult Nails Cruisin’ Nude as my base colour and painted on the Mos with black acrylic paint. All finished with a top coat of NYC Expert Last.

Day 31: Recreate Your Favourite Challenge (Double Feature)

Today, the 31 Day Challenge comes to an end for Me, Rie and Cris. There’s been some ups and downs but I’ve loved the whole experience. It will be nice to go back to posting whatever I want when I want but I’m slightly afraid that I’ve forgotten how to create manicures without a list to follow!

Cris, Rie and I were discussing what ‘Recreate Your Favourite Challenge’ actually means and in the end we just decided to recreate our favourite challenge from each others’ previous 30 days.

From Rie’s challenge, I wanted to recreate her ‘Inspired by Fashion’ nails. She was inspired by some incredible Alexander McQueen shoes. To see and Rie’s mani and the shoes that inspired it, click here.

I love Rie’s mani because it translate the shoe perfectly on to her nails. The finished look is so simple and elegant which is everything I look for in a manicure.

I used E.L.F Innocence as a base and I don’t have the same Konad plate she used so I went for a design from one of my fauxnad plates which I stamped with Barry M Grey first, then Barry M Silver Foil. I sponged on a little silver glitter and added a top coat of NYC, et voila!

From Cris, I decided on her Flower nails from Day 14. She used a combination of stamping, freehand and dotting to create a beautiful vibrant manicure. Click here to see her mani.

I love Cris’s flower mani because every time I look at it I can’t help but feel a little warmer inside. It gives me a much needed reminder of summer now that the winter is kicking in.

I used A-England Galahad as a base and Wet n Wild white for stamping with BM12. For the detail on the flowers, I used Collection 2000 Spangles and Rimmel Funky Diva. The Rhinestones are from Viva La Nails, and of course I used NYC Top Coat to finish it all off.
