    Beauty and the Beach: Nail Art Entry

     This is my entry to the Beauty and the Beach Competition which is being held by travelsupermarket.com.
    I struggled for while to come up with a holiday look so in the end I just sat myself down and thought ‘What’s my favourite part about the beach?’, and the answer is easy… the waves!
    This nail art is meant to look like the little remainders of the tide that wash up on the beach. For me, it doesn’t qualify as a holiday unless I at least get to dip my feet in that last inch of the ocean.

    I used Cult Nails Cruisin Nude as my base colour then used Essie Mezmerized to create a gradient using this tutorial. Then I used a sponge to dab on some Barry M White to create the foam. Finally, I finished it off with two coats of Essence Better Than Gel Nails.

    NY Fashionail Week Day 5: Prabal Gurung

    This is by far my favourite New York Fashion week nail art design which is why I saved it until last! The drippy manicure is nothing new, but I love this colour combination so much. The design was created by Sally Hansen’s Tracy Lee for the Prabal Gurung show.

    I used two coats of OPI Samoan Sand as my base colour and freehanded the blood drips with Cult Nails Quench and a striping brush. All finished off with two coats of Essence Better Than Gel.

    Nautical Nail Tips

    I’ve run out of ideas this week so I was gonna do a swatch post today. Then I realised I have absolutely nothing interesting to swatch so I wanted some simple nail art. Whenever I tell myself I’m going to do something ‘simple’, it nearly always takes longer than, say, a full stamping manicure because I get caught up in the ‘simple’ details! I suck at drawing tips but I always think this time I’ll nail it, even though I never do!
    So basically, I’m trying to say that when short on time, I should not attempt tips. Even if it seems like a simple option.

    The base colour is Cult Nails Cruisin Nude. I used Barry M White and then Miss Sporty 320 with a striping brush for the tip detail. I finished it off with two coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

    Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

    I found out today that I made it on to the shortlist for the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards 2012! It really is all thanks to you guys. Thank you to everyone that put in a nomination for me, I love you all so much! I’m even getting a little teary eyed writing this *le cry*!
    If you would like to vote for me, you can do so on the Cosmo website and I’m in the Established Beauty Blog category. I’m not getting my hopes up for the win but I’m really overjoyed just to be on the list! I say this all the time (and I still find it hard to fully articulate my feelings on the subject) but when I started this blog I never imagined it would evolve in to the one you’re reading today but I’m so glad that it has. To be receiving such recognition for doing something that I love is just overwhelming. Once again, thank you!
    Today’s nail art is something I’ve had in mind for a long time, well the basic premise anyway. I knew I wanted to do naked half-moons but I didn’t know how I would dress them up. As hard as I try, I can’t shake this glequin obsession so I’m just going to keep rolling with it!

    I did not use a ‘base colour’. I just used my base coat (Cult Nails Get It On) and waited for that to dry before using some hole reinforcers to mark of the half moons at the base of my nails. I painted a coat of W7 Black on each nail and quickly removed the hole reinforcers. I used a striping brush with W7 Black to neaten up any mistakes and let it all dry.
    To attach the glequins, I painted on a coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast and used a sticky toothpick to place them while that was still tacky.
    Finally, I added another coat of wicked fast and that was that!

    Cult Nails Get It On Base Coat, Hole Reinforcers, W7 Black, Glequins from Born Pretty Store, Cult Nails Wicked Fast Top Coat, A Striping Brush

    Sandy Skittle

    It seems I’ve dug myself in to a comfy little nail art nook this past week. There have been two manis that I fell head over heels for and have been longing to wear again – the purple skittle mani and the sandy glitter sandwich. 
    But I don’t want to bore you all, so I imagined what their lovechild would look like and painted that on my nails instead! The result is a Sandy Skittle! I don’t know where I keep plucking these absurd names from but they do seem to roll off the tongue and I think they are perfectly descriptive.
    I had so many pictures to choose from today, I had to put some after the jump. You’ll also find all the info about polishes there too.

    The base colour is Cult Nails Cruisin Nude. 
    For the tribal patterns I used Black Acrylic Paint and Barry M Gold Foil. 
    The glitter on my ring finger is BYS Gold Finger and I topped that with two coats of Samoan Sand to make a glitter sandwich.
    To create the leopard print on my first finger, I used Red Angel Plate RA-107 with W7 Black and topped it with Barry M Gold Foil. 
    The brush I used for all the freehanded details was a small striper brush from a nail art brush set.
    Finally I finished it all off with two coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast Top Coat.

    Sandy Sandwich

    The idea of a neutral Jelly Sandwich popped in to my head this morning and I spent all day trying to figure out which polishes I wanted to use. I knew it would look really good with some gold multi glitter but at the time I totally forgot that I do in fact own one of those! Instead, I reached for this colourful concoction with some skepticism. 
    I’m so glad I tried this combination though because I love it! Suspending the glitter between a few coats of polish has taken the harsh metallic of the tiny hexes away and made it look like matte glitter. The pieces that look white are in fact silver in the bottle and the little yellow ones are gold. Scroll down a bit for the full recipe!

    Two coats of Cult Nails Cruisin Nude
    One coat (and a few strategic strokes) of Technic Carnival
    Two coats of OPI Somoan Sand
    One coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast. I got impatient and painted it on before the OPI was dry which is why it’s come out a bit streaky.
