I am getting completely obsessed with striping tape manis. The possibilities are just endless and I find myself reaching for the rolls again and again recently. In hindsight, this was too subtle of a colour combo to pick for photographing under a bright light. The contrast was much more visible in real life but hopefully you can see it well enough in the pictures.
I used China Glaze Passion for Petals as the base colour on my ring finger and Essie Navigate Her on the rest. I used one coat of Seche Vite and waited 15 minutes before applying striping tape first in lines straight from cuticle to tip, then diagonally between those lines using a pair of pointy tweezers.
Next I painted on one thick coat of Barry M Greenberry one nail at a time and removed the tape while that was still wet. I topped it all off with one coat of Seche Vite.

A few days ago, a fellow blogger got in touch with me to introduce her blog, Brush me Blush, and in particular a 30 day series of tutorials she has created with twists on the french manicure. I immediately spotted some ideas that I want to try out and she even sent me a few sneak peeks of ones that are to come. This is one of those and you’ll be able to see the steps on her blog very soon.
The tutorial was for Cookie Monster half moons – absolute genius! I’ve been meaning to do Cookie Monster nail art since I got this flocking powder and I even bought googly eyes but I just couldn’t get it right. Ria has nailed it with this tutorial!
I won’t give too many of the details away – you’ll have to wait for the tutorial at Brush me Blush – but I used NYC Water Street Blue, Essie Glamour Purse, Rimmel Desire and some flocking powder from Born Pretty to create this look.

For this mani I used two coats of Essie Lollipop (the moons) as a base coat and then freehanded on Essie Bordeaux, a deep maroon, for the rest. I used a nail art brush first for the crisp line and a bit of filling, then I used the brush from inside the bottle for the rest. I had to use about 3 coats of Bordeaux to get it looking opaque so there was a huge bump where the colours meet!
I finished it off with a coat of Seche Vite which did a little to smooth out the bump but not much. I need to think a bit further ahead next time I do a half moon and make sure I pick a top colour that’s opaque in one coat!

It’s been a long time since I did a gradient. I’ve really been in the mood to create some gradient nails for a while now but I couldn’t think up a colour combination that I was really happy with and that I hadn’t already done! Blue and brown sounds wrong when you put the words together but I’ve always loved them paired as colours. I really have gone super girly recently. This is a very soft set of colours for me!
I used two coats of Barry M Blueberry as my base colour and created the gradient with Essie Glamour Purse using a makeup sponge, following this tutorial. I topped it with two coats of Seche Vite for an ultra glassy look.

Here it is. The very last. The final day of my 31 Day Challenge 2012! It’s been a long and bumpy ride, we even lost a woman 5 weeks in but just like last year, I’m so glad we did it! I don’t really have much else to say on the subject so I’ll just leave you with my recreation of Rie’s Day 8 Metallic Nails.
I’ve never ever done a splatter mani before and I probably won’t be doing one again any time soon. The clean up on this took just as long, if not longer, than the mani itself! I think part of the problem was the metallic polishes. Whenever I touched acetone to the mess, it would send a million bits of shimmer swimming in to my cuticles and I just couldn’t get it all off! Saying that, I did grow to love the result and maybe a bit of practice will do me good.

I used A-England Lancelot as my base colour, then used Essie Penny Talk, Barry M Gold Foil and Barry M Silver Foil for the splatters. I topped it with one coat of Seche Vite to make it dry quickly and then one coat of Rimmel Mattifying Top Coat.
