Honeycomb Madness

They look like honeycomb and I must be mad to spend so much time placing glitter juuust so on my nails so that all the edges and corners match up! It didn’t actually take as long as you might think though. I need to make a tutorial for these glequins as I’m sure a lot of people are scared of using them because they look so fiddly. If you have the right tools (and by tools I mean toothpicks) and some time to concentrate, they’re actually quite fun to play with!

I keep reaching for Cult Nails polishes recently simply because they’re all stacked next to me on my desk so it requires minimal effort to get hold of a bottle! I really need to get a little rotation system going so that I don’t just use the same polishes week after week and you get to see a bit of variation!

Sandy Skittle

It seems I’ve dug myself in to a comfy little nail art nook this past week. There have been two manis that I fell head over heels for and have been longing to wear again – the purple skittle mani and the sandy glitter sandwich.

But I don’t want to bore you all, so I imagined what their lovechild would look like and painted that on my nails instead! The result is a Sandy Skittle! I don’t know where I keep plucking these absurd names from but they do seem to roll off the tongue and I think they are perfectly descriptive.

I had so many pictures to choose from today, I had to put some after the jump. You’ll also find all the info about polishes there too.

The base colour is Cult Nails Cruisin Nude.

For the tribal patterns I used Black Acrylic Paint and Barry M Gold Foil.

The glitter on my ring finger is BYS Gold Finger and I topped that with two coats of Samoan Sand to make a glitter sandwich.

To create the leopard print on my first finger, I used Red Angel Plate RA-107 with W7 Black and topped it with Barry M Gold Foil.

The brush I used for all the freehanded details was a small striper brush from a nail art brush set.

Finally I finished it all off with two coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast Top Coat.

Superheroes Challenge: Marvel Hero… Wasp!

So we’ve seen the Villain and today, Marvel’s hero is riding, or should I say flying, in to save the day! I know that Venom is Spider-Man’s arch enemy but I’ve done Spider-Man nail art in the past so I thought I’d try something new today. I’ve actually done most of the popular Marvel heroes before (Marvel even has it’s own tag!) so I had to reach a bit further than the Hollywood blockbusters for today’s nail art.

I chose to do Wasp, aka Janet Van Dyne. Some of you might recognise her from one of the Avengers cartoon series. I know that’s where I first saw her and when I was coming up with ideas for today’s nail art, I had an idea for her immediately! The wings came out better than I expected since I had the idea to make them pearly right at the last second and it definitely makes them more convincing as wasp wings!

I used NYC Lexington Yellow and Cult Nails Cruisin Nude as my base colours. All the black detail is done with a small nail art brush and black acrylic paint. Finally, I used Rimmel Daisy Chain to go over the wings and give them that delicate, pearly effect.

I finished it all of with two coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

Cult Nails Vicious Skittle Art

I think I know why I’ve been completely obsessed with mix and matching my manis recently. I realised it’s just an excuse for every nail to be an accent nail! I like to just paint on a base colour and rummage through my supplies until I get ideas. Today’s center piece is Cult Nails Vicious which is one of my absolute favourite purple polishes.

Here’s a close up of the Max Factor Fantasy Fire with the light coming from two different angles. You can see the way it flashes from gold-red to copper-green. Gooorgeous!

We Like to Touch

This mani was a bit-by-bit creation. By that I mean I picked my base colour, painted it on. Picked up my scotch tape and just kept adding! This is the fastest scotch tape mani I’ve ever made thanks to Cult Nails Wicked Fast which really does dry wickedly fast. I’ve switched top coats recently after the couple bottles of my favourite NYC top coat that I picked up most recently turned out to be really runny and not very hard drying. I was waking up every morning with sheet and hair marks all over my nails! I’m really hoping it’s just a bad batch and they haven’t changed the formula.

I used Rimmel Grey Matter as a base and Cult Nails Vicious and My Kind of Kool Aid for the patches which I marked off with scotch tape to paint. I used a coat of Cult Nails’ top coat, Wicked Fast in between each new layer to prevent the scotch tape from puling it all up and two coats on the top!

Stud Stripe Square

It’s no secret that I love studs. Especially ones I can wear on my nails! Born Pretty Store is my one stop shop for nail studs. Their selection has grown a lot since I bought my first bag – they now have all shapes and sizes and because it’s Born Pretty, I know I’m getting a bargain. The most exciting addition for me was these square studs. I’ve seen them used before but couldn’t find them anywhere, until Emily alerted me to them on Born Pretty!

The blue and nude isn’t a colour combination that I would have thought to use but I’ve been seeing it all over Tumblr recently and it definitely works!

I used two coats of Cult Nails Cruisin’ Nude as a base, then used a striping brush to paint on the stripes using Barry M Cyan Blue. I placed the studs* using a toothpick dipped in clear polish while the blue was still tacky and pushed them gently down in to the polish. All finished with two top coats of NYC.

Birthday Nails!

Tomorrow is my 21st birthday! I’m going out tonight with some friends to celebrate with drinks (read: lots of drinks) and revelry and these are the nails I’m sporting.
I got the idea from Trincess at Emerald Sparkled who took inspiration from The Illustrated Nail. The title of Trincess’ post, ‘Look Rich Be Cheap’ has stuck in my head since the first time I read it because it pretty much sums up my life!

I used two coats of Cult Nails Time Traveler as a base, then used a slow drying top coat and placed on these sequins from Viva La Nails using a cocktail stick dipped in the clear polish to make the end sticky.
I used GOSH Metallic Blue to paint on the XXI and finished it off with a couple of coats of NYC In A New York Minute just to smooth things over.
