    The Amazing Spider-Nails (Spider-man Nail Art)

    So I’m sat here trying desperately to some up with an idea for some awesome nail art and I have my new Cult Nails colours on the desk next to me, I’m eyeing them up and browsing the internet pointlessly like I always do and I see that The Amazing Spider-Man is trending on Twitter… *lightbulb* 
    The reason for it trending is the 2nd trailer which hit the internet this week after its Super Bowl spot. I watched it first thing this morning which has renewed my excitement for the movie and my love affair with Marvel/Superhero nail art!
    I used Cult Nails Quench as a base then freehanded the tips with Cult Nails Time Traveller using a nail art brush. All the details are also freehanded with Barry M Silver Foil and I outlined the eyes with black acrylic paint.

    Nail Mail!

    Back in January I entered Cult Nails‘ nail art competition on Facebook (you can see all the entries here). I want to thank everyone who liked my entry enough to vote for me so so much. I didn’t win on votes, although I came a close second, but Maria had another prize to give to one lucky name drawn from the entrants and that lucky person was me!
    After two weeks of harassing the postman, my package is finally here!

    It includes 3 Cult Nails Colours, their base and top coats and some nail art supplies that I can’t wait to try.
    Wicked Fast Top Coat, Get It On Base Coat
    Time Traveller, Quench, Vicious.
    This brings my Cult Nails collection to a healthy 9 bottles. I’m definitely part of the Cult!
    Mash dotting tools, rhinestone wheel and tweezers. These tweezers are going to come in very handy for me! Up until now, I’ve always used a toothpick to place small decorations on my nails but these will do a much better job with those fiddly items. Inside the black pouch is a set of Mash nail art brushes. I’ll tell you a little secret about these nail art brushes – they double up perfectly for make-up brushes. There’s one that I use for my eyeliner and another that’s ideal for eyebrows!
    And finally, a double ended Konad stamper set. I think these are ‘standard issue’ now but back when I bought my stamper, over 2 years ago now and it still works perfectly, they looked like this so I’m very much looking forward to testing this one out.

    Classic But Not

    Since my Lana Del Rey inspired manicure [here], I’ve been completely obsessed with the combination of nude and red polish. Although I think this mani could have used a bit of bling, I still love it!

    The base colour is Cult Nails Cruisin Nude and I used a nail art brush to paint on the tips with La Femme Cherry Red and the lines with W7 Black.

    Sorry about the variations in colouring of the pictures, my camera’s white balance function seems to be going through a rough patch!

    Lana Del Rey Inspired Nail Art

    The video for Lana Del Rey’s new single, Born To Die, was released on Wednesday and I’m not exaggerating when I say I’ve been listening to the song on repeat ever since I first heard it (apart from the hours I spent at work or sleeping). This chick is just gorgeous and she’s my hair idol. Mine WILL look like that one day!
    Lana’s nails in the video are so sexy. These were the best screen shots I could get of the nails but you can watch the stunning video in full here.
    I used Cult Nails Cruisin’ Nude as a base then freehanded the chevrons with La Femme Cherry Red (3rd day in a row I’ve used this shade!) using a striping brush.
    I used Barry M Gold Foil with a smaller striping brush to freehand the gold lines.
    If you don’t have steady, line drawing hands, you can use scotch tape to mark off the area you want to paint red, just make sure your base colour is completely dry before you go sticking tape on your nails.

    Movember Nail Art

    Has everyone heard of Movember? It’s a great initiative that runs throughout the month of November to raise funds and awareness for some too often ignored men’s health issues, and more specifically protate cancer and other cancers that affect the male proportion of the population. 
    Guys (or Mo Bros) are encouraged to start the month clean shaven and spend the next 30 days grooming their moustache to perfection, but I know a lot of gentlemen prefer to abstain from any form of grooming instead of going for the perfectly preened moustache!

    I’ve seen a lot of pictures of Movember nails this month, but I think I’ve managed to trace the idea back to cutepolish on YouTube. You can see her original video for creating moustaches on your nails here.
    I thought I’d add my own touch to this mani so I’ve used a few different Mo designs!
    I used the always classic Cult Nails Cruisin’ Nude as my base colour and painted on the Mos with black acrylic paint. All finished with a top coat of NYC Expert Last.

    Half-Moon Nudey

    This is another look from New York Fashion Week, this time from the Odilon show. 
    The design comes from Minx Nails who, in case you don’t know, make a special kind of nail sticker that really bonds to your nail and is normally applied by professionals. However, lots of the designs are easy enough to recreate at home with polish and nail art brushes. 
    You may have seen Beyonce, Rihanna and other stars sporting the famous Minx chrome manicures. Hopefully, one day, the powers that be will create a polish that gives you the same effect as the amazing chrome Minxes.
    I couldn’t find this design on Minx’s website but you can click here to see the models sporting the look.

    I used Collection 2000 White as a base and Cult Nails Cruisin’ Nude for the half moons which I applied using a small nail art brush.

    ♪♫ Memories of times and the places that were there

    I can’t believe it’s Friday already! This week has flown by so quickly.
    You might have noticed a few changes around here recently. I put up a new banner a little while ago and my pictures have also taken a turn for the better if I do say so myself!
    I’ve been wanting a great lamp with a white fluorescent bulb for a long time after Cris gave me some advice about lighting. They can be a bit pricey but I was lucky enough to find one in the house. It’s been sat on the same side table for months and I’ve gotten so used to seeing it that I just forgot it was there.
    I was sat in the lounge one day when I caught a glimpse of it and just had one of those moments where something clicked in my brain and I realised it was exactly what I’d been wanting for weeks!
    I also changed my watermark and have started stamping it in to the middle of the pictures because I’ve seen a few of my pictures online with the watermark cropped out and no credit given which is so annoying (and illegal). So, I have to put it in a place where it can’t be cropped without slicing up the picture, but I’m trying to keep it as unobtrusive as possible and I hope you guys don’t mind too much.
    I started out using scotch tape to mark off the black sections at the side but it ruined the mani underneath so I just whipped out a striping brush and freehanded the a line then filled it in after. It’s obviously not as crisp a line as you would get using scotch tape but it saves a lot of time and hassle.
