While I Was Gone: 4 Gradients

Gradient Nail Art by The Nailasaurus

Please let me be the first to call myself out on the lack of blog posts coming from this direction over the last month or so. There is no big reason for my extended absence; for one reason or another I just haven’t been feeling it for a while.

I’m still thinking about blogging every single day, multiple times a day… okay basically just all the time. It’s in my bones now and I can’t escape it. The ideas keep on coming but I’m lagging a little on the execution side of things. I’m sure some of you know exactly where I’m coming from with this. Please tell me I’m not alone!

I’ve obviously been keeping myself busy with nail art and snapping pics the whole time though. We all know how much I love a gradient and what’s better than one gradient? Lots of them! I did neglect notekeeping duties on occasion but all the info under the images is correct to the best of my knowledge!

31 Day Challenge x Nailvengers: Gradient Artwork

    Watercolour Gradient Nail Art

Image source: May Frenzy on Etsy
There’s so much going on in this post that I just can’t even! We’ve got some nail art, a video tutorial and a pretty sweet link-up right at the bottom! I’ve smushed together two different challenges in one for today’s nail art. Nailvengers this month called for gradients and I’ve gotten as far as ‘Inspired by Artwork’ in the 31 Day Challenge which looks like it’ll be stretching over more than 31 days by the time I get to the finish line.
My first stop for beautiful art these days is always Etsy and it never fails to deliver a healthy dose of nail art inspiration. I was looking for something featuring a gradient but with a fancy twist and when I came across this piece by May Frenzy Designs, I knew I’d struck gold. The watercolour finish is just perfect for me to revisit the watercolour gradient technique with a funky new colour combination.
For the nail art, I started with a base of Barry M White then created the watercolour gradient effect on top. There’s a video tutorial at the bottom of the post so be sure to scroll down for that and the colours used are: OPI William Tell Me About OPI, piCture pOlish Bonkers, Barry M Burgundy Crush and Barry M Caramel.

    Watercolour Gradient Video Tutorial

As promised, here is a video tutorial for the Life’s a Beach / Watercolour Gradient nail art I posted a while back. See that post here! If you’re wondering why I’ve suddenly gone crazy for video tutorials, it’s because I have enough time to create them these days and I’m really enjoying building on my video skills. I’ve always wanted to make great video tutorials but often doubted my abilities to create them the way I envisioned them. This year, I finally got a good video kit sorted out and the only thing holding me back was self-doubt about my filming and editing skills. You may remember that, in March, I finally decided that ‘Done Is Better Than Perfect’ (I even have it hanging on my wall to remember) and the first thing on my ‘get done’ list was videos. It also seems that video is becoming an almost essential component of blogging as audiences move towards YouTube for answers and I thought it would be best to jump on that train before it disappears over the horizon!

I really like this new way of doing gradients to make them to look a bit more streaky and raw! It looks perfect in blue as it has a really watery look about it but I’m looking forward to trying it in other colour schemes too.

Today’s nail art is inspired by a print by Kitoki that I came across on Etsy. Their shop is full of beautiful photography which they describe as ‘dreamy’ and I can’t think of a better word for it. A lot of the pieces are kind of abstract which always makes for some great nail art. This particular photo is called Joy is water II.
I think the nail art looks like a watercolour gradient. I used a flat nail art brush to sweep on the colours over a base of white, starting at the cuticle with the darkest shade and working my way to the tip blending the colours as I went. I think the result does look like sweeping water
The shades I used are Barry M White as my base, Sally Hansen So-Nata Problem, Rimmel Britpop, piCture pOlish Swagger and Barry M Huckleberry. It’s all topped off with a coat of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.
