Pac-Man Nail Art!

A few days ago, a twitter friend suggested I do Pac-Man nails and I instantly jumped on the idea! Pac-Man was on my short-list for the Week of Geek but didn’t end up making the cut and I guess I just forgot about the idea until Araneae mentioned it.

I used yellow (George Buttercup shine) as a base for my ring finger and black (Rimmel Black satin) for all the others. I used a nail art brush to freehand the outline of Pac-Man with black acrylic paint then black polish to fill out the remaining bits of nail.

For the ghosts, I used white acrylic paint to make out the shapes and then coloured them in using Miss Sporty Orange, Barry M Raspberry and L’Oreal Bebe. The blue of the maze is Barry M Cyan Blue which I painted on with a striping brush and I used a dotting tool with La Femme Grey Cream for the pac-dots.

Some Assembly Required (Avengers Nail Art)

Superhero nail art has become such a fixture on here that I’m considering dedicating a label to it!

Earlier today, I came across a gallery of minimalist (my favourite kind of ‘ist’) Marvel hero posters by artist Marko Manev which you can see here and naturally my first thought was ‘they would look good on my nails’.

I decided that to make it a nice neat set, I would just do the designs corresponding to the Avengers minus Captain America because I’ve already done a design exactly the same.

Superheroine Nail Art

Since my Week of Geek and the amazing positive reception it received I’ve been jotting down every nerdy nail idea that comes to me! Miss Dalum suggested that I do a Superheroine themed mani which I think perfectly compliments the Marvel Heroes themed nails where I only featured the fellas! There’s a mix of heroes from Marvel and DC in here today.

While we’re on the subject, has everyone seen the trailer for The Amazing Spiderman? It looks, well, amazing! You can see it here if you haven’t yet.

‘I’ve had enough trouble for a lifetime’ (Harry Potter Nail Art)

How could I not dedicate today’s nails to Harry Potter?! I’ve read all the books and seen all the films so I, like many, will be sad to see the end of the series. I’m not actually sure when I will be seeing the film. I could go on Sunday but I don’t like going to the cinema when it’s really really busy so I’m tempted to even wait until next week! I know that conviction won’t hold up for very long though!

Here’s some trivia for you. J.K. Rowling grew up in the area that I live in. I even went to the same high school she did!

I used Bundle Monster plate BM20 for the stripes.

When I was checking the house colours (I know them of course, but I wanted to check I was 100% right because it would have been super embarrassing if I used the wrong colours) I found an interesting article about the significance of the colours which you can read here.

Week of Geek Day 7: May The Force Be With You (Star Wars Nails)

Welcome to the last day of my Week of Geek and thank you so much if you are still with me! I want to say thanks to everyone that has taken the time to read and comment this week, it means a lot. I really didn’t know how the idea would be received so I’m really happy to see that you are all fellow dorks like me!

As I said yesterday, I still have loads of ideas so I’ll be posting a lot of manis like this in the future. It seems I’ve opened a can of worms because new ideas are hitting me every day.

Week of Geek Day 6: Social Media Nails

If I’m any kind of nerd, it’s a computer nerd. And if there’s one thing I love about computers, it’s the internet.
Today’s nails are dedicated to the Social Media sites that I use, although I don’t know if they actually qualify as geeky? Since I started blogging, social media has become part of my daily life. I honestly get twitchy if I go too long without checking at least my email inbox and I’m a total YouTube addict. Shaytards, anyone?!

I’m sad to be coming to the end of my Week of Geek. I’ve had so much fun thinking up these designs and I still have plenty of ideas so, fear not, I’ll be running them off every now and then whenever I have the time to do them.

The orange I used for the blogger logo bled like a bish but it’s the only orange polish I own! Obviously the ‘B’ in the middle is supposed to be white but that just wasn’t happening, even after I went over it THREE TIMES!

Week of Geek Day 5: Doctor Who Nails

I don’t know how familiar American readers will be with Doctor Who but here in the UK pretty much everyone is aware of it. It’s been running on the BBC since 1963 which makes it the longest running Sci-Fi series in the world and you could definitely tag it with ‘cult favourite’. Since 2005 they’ve been filming it in the city where I go to Uni and live for most of the year but so far I haven’t spotted them filming anywhere.

However, they filmed a bit for BBC’s Sherlock in the University when I was driving past with friends one night and stopped to get a closer look. A security guy came up to the car and we asked what was going on, when he said they were filming, I blurted out ‘IS IT DOCTOR WHO?’. It wasn’t!

AND I walked right through the set of Killer Elite last summer. If I knew Jason Statham and Robert De Niro were in the area I would have stuck around a while.

10 nerd points go to the first person to tell me what TARDIS stands for. No cheating please!
