Day of the Doctor Nail Art

Back in the day, I used to be a big Doctor Who fan although I cannot claim to be a true Whovian. After Rose’s time on the show came to an end, I started watching it less often and still haven’t really come around to the idea of Matt Smith as The Doctor. Nevertheless, I’ll still be watching the 50th anniversary episode this evening! After all the best Doctor (don’t argue with me, you know it’s true), David Tennant is returning and I’m sure there will be more than a few familiar faces and other surprises along the way!

For the base colour I chose a polish that fits the theme perfectly… Cult Nails Time Traveler – a polish named after the Doctor’s big blue box

On my ring and pinky fingers, I stuck some 1 mm flat backed pearls and painted them copper to look a bit like Daleks!

My index finger is painted with Essie As Gold as it Gets and stamped with W7 Black and a design from MoYou London Plate Pro Collection 10. This is meant to look a bit like The Master’s fob since this is a piece of imagery that really stood out to me back in the days when I used to watch the show. Wasn’t The Master a brilliant character?!

The galaxy nails were created using a couple of polishes including the holographic polishes A-England Rose Bower and Princess Sabra.

Finally, it’s all topped off with Cult Nails Get It On.

    31DC013 Day 5: Blue Nails

I was really stuck for ideas today but I quite like the nail art I came up with in the end. I wanted to do something freehand and when I thought of blue the only thing that I could picture was Facebook!
My nails seem to be growing at double speed recently and I’ve been wondered if I should try to grow them out a bit and see how long I can get them. At the same time I love my nubbins, I kind of feel like short square nails are my signature look and I find long nails kind of annoying to have on me! It’s like telling yourself you’re gonna grow out your hair down to your waist but inevitably end up chopping it all off anyway! What do you guys think? Should I stick by my shorties or try a longer look?

I used Essie Mezmerised as my base colour and freehanded the details using a nail art brush and white acrylic paint. I added a little bit of detail on the ‘Like’ using Barry M Blueberry. It’s all topped off with two coats of Sally Hansen Dries Instantly.

    inFamous Inspired Nail Art

Today’s nail art is inspired by the inFamous game series. I’ve been playing them a lot recently so I really wanted to dedicate some nail art to Cole Macgrath. If you’re not familiar with the series, it follows Cole who has the power to manipulate and control electricity. Throughout the games, you have to decide doing the good thing or the evil thing. If you follow the righteous path you remain a handsome hero whose electric is blue but if you’re naughty, your electric goes red and you start to look kinda nasty too!

It took me a few tries to figure out a method to make the lightning look realistic but I think it turned out quite well in the end! I started by painting on the darkest reds and blues that were in my collection as my base colours.
Next I mixed up red with Rimmel Daisy Chain to create a semi opaque, shimmery version of
red and used a nail art brush to paint on a lightning strike pattern.
When that was dry, I used white acrylic paint to paint on thinner lines and create the final effect. I repeated that with blue in the place of red for the other two fingers.
My middle finger is freehanded (rather badly!) over a base of Barry M White using Black acrylic paint.
I finished it all off with a coat of  No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat to smooth it over and then a coat of NYC Matte Me Crazy for the matte look.

    Holy Nail Art, Batman!

I started playing Arkham Asylum months and months ago but then stopped making time to play it. Things just got crazy busy with work and I spend nearly all my free time nowadays on this blog! Well I woke up on this fine Sunday with a couple of hours to spare and decided to give it another crack. I definitely need to put a bit more time in and complete it!
I’ve done Batman nails before but these are distinctly more Dark Knight themed. I love Dorian Gray, it’s an incredible polish – like a gun metal grey/black. If you like your black polishes like me, check out A-England’s Gothic Beauties,

I used A-England Lancelot as my base and A-England Dorian Gray with a nail art brush to draw on the bat. I created the gradients on my thumb and pinky using the same two polishes following this tutorial.
It’s all topped off with two coats of Sally Hansen Insta Dri.

    31DC2012: Day 23 Inspired by a Movie

I’m here with Day 23 of the 31 Day Challenge and the film I chose is Watchmen. We all know how I love everything superhero so this was the obvious choice as I’ve exhausted most of the other ones. If you haven’t seen the film, watch it!
This is the first really detailed freehand nail art I’ve done for absolutely ages and I love it! I wish I had more time these days to do nail art like this. I miss it!
Don’t forget to stop by Nails and Noms and Let Them Have Polish to see how they’re getting on with their challenges.

Thumb to pinky: Silk Spectre, Dr Manhattan, Watchmen, Rorschach (kind of!), The Comedian
All the details were freehanded with nail art brushes and here’s a run down of the polishes I used…
Urban Outfitters Denim Blue, Cult Nails Quench, Essie Mezmerised, Collection 2000 Sherbet Lemons, W7 Black, Barry M White, Deborah Lippmann Fashion*.
I also used white and black acrylic paint here and there for the small details.

YEAH SCIENCE! Breaking Bad Nail Art

Breaking Bad is a series I started watching ages ago but I only saw the first few episodes before I was distracted by something else. Well I picked it up again yesterday and have been watching back to back episodes since! A few episodes in to my Sunday afternoon marathon, I decided I had to dedicate some nail art to Walt and Jesse.

The Radioactive and Biohazard symbols don’t fit perfectly in to the theme but when I posted these yellow nails way back when, someone said they looked like Breaking Bad Nails. So I thought I’d slip them in there today.

I used BYS Fern as the base colour on my first and middle fingers, then painted on the frame and lettering with white acrylic paint and a striping brush (pictured).
I painted a base of Barry M White on to all the other nails before adding Collection 2000 Sherbet Lemons for the yellow and H+M New Moon for the ‘crystals’ (unfortunately I don’t have a blue flakie!). The black details are acrylic paint, again with the striping brush.
If you’re wondering what the nonsense on my ring finger is, it’s the 2D structure of Methamphetamine according to Wikipedia, so if there are any chemists reading and I got it wrong, go easy on me!
