Have I ever told you that I really love MoYou London stamping plates? Wait.. what do you mean, I’ve already told you dozens of times? Well it’s absolutely true. These designs are both from a plate in the Hipster collection and I can’t wait to try out the rest of the designs on the plate. It’s times like these I wish I had 18 fingers so I could use every pattern at once.

With the rise of indie glitter polishes over the last few years, I feel like jelly sandwiches are becoming a thing of the past. So many indies are described as a ‘jelly sandwich in a bottle’ and it’s true, they absolutely are! Soon enough, Jelly Sandwiches will be to nail polish what the Game Boy is to gaming – a nostalgic piece of the not-so-distant past. Don’t get me wrong, I love the innovations that indie brands have brought to the table in the nail industry and I hope they’ll be changing the game for many more years but sometimes you can’t beat a good classic.

It’s been years since I last wore a jelly sandwich and I’ve been meaning to revisit them since I got hold of the OPI Muppets Most Wanted collection. The nude and pink polishes in that collection are very sheer and although they’re not true jellies, they fit the role okay in a jelly sandwich.

I tried out a few combinations yesterday but couldn’t decide which to actually put on my nails so I put it to a vote on Facebook and this combination came up trumps. I had to switch out the base colour for something a bit closer in tone to the jelly topping but I think it works nicely.

2 coats of NYC Lavender Cupcake

1 coat of Maybelline Acid Wash Top Splatter

1 coat of OPI I Love Applause

1 coat of Glisten & Glow HK Girl (Top Coat)

Peaches and Cream

It would seem that I’m on an Orange kick at the moment. Out of nowhere I seem to have amassed a collection of really gorgeous orange shades and in this weather it just feels so right to wear them. Although this nail art is really simple, I think the stunning peach shade sets it off just right and chevrons always add a nice pop !

For this nail art, I used NYC Peach Popsicles and Graffiti Nails Ice White as my base colours. I used a thin coat of Glisten & Glow HK Girl on the white nails to dry them quickly.

For the chevron effect, I used the Chevron Stencils from She Sells Seashells and No7 Just Black.

The glitter on my first finger is Maybelline Acid Wash Top Splatter.

It’s all topped off with a two coats of HK Girl.

Maybelline Acid Wash Effect: Ripped Tide Swatch | The Nailasaurus

I hit up Superdrug today and was really pleased to see a few new releases. Unless I catch wind of new products online, I never know what’s out until I see it in store so I sometimes get a nice surprise when I get to Superdrug or Boots for the first time in a while.

I ended up picking up two from Maybelline’s new Acid Wash Effect range and a flakie topper by Look. When I asked on Facebook which one you wanted to see first, the answer was a resounding ‘Ripped Tide’!

They had the bleached neons which I did know about and have seen a lot of people raving about them. I was tempted but I already have shades similar and was much more intrigued by the Acid Wash Effect range. I love white glitter but only have it mixed in with other glitters and I know from experience that you have to snap up these Maybelline polishes when you see them because they’re not on the shelves for very long. Hmmm… maybe I will go back for the Bleached Neons if only for the novelty factor!

Ripped Tide is a light turquoise jelly polish packed with white hex sequins ranging from large to micro. For this swatch I used 3 coats which was what I expected for a jelly. If I’d needed less than three coats, that would have been a sweet bonus. If I needed more than three coats I would probably never wear it again. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

This polish applied really nicely. The glitter is really packed in there but it didn’t get in the way of the brushstrokes which I sometimes find with chunkier glitters. I used two coats of Glisten & Glow HK Girl Top Coat to smooth it over. Overall it’s a really nice polish that’s perfect for summer and something a bit different than what you normally see on the high street.

Nice But Naughty

Pastel Geometric Nail Art | The Nailasaurus | UK Nail Art Blog

I was jonesing for a pastel mani today but I didn’t want to get too girly with it. As the title suggests, I went for something nice and sweet but equally naughty at the same time. I remembered this Hex nail charm and knew it would be perfect to add a touch of ~~class~~ badass to my nails.

The base colour for the nail charm is Barry M Heather and the Fuck You charm is from Hex Nail Jewelry.

For the negative space cross on my ring finger, I used Striping Tape to mark off the cross on my bare nail, then painted over it with Maybelline Ceramic Blue.

The colour block nails are a base of Delush Make Me Blush. I applied a thin coat of HK Girl and waited ten minutes for it to dry. Next I placed a strip of scotch tape over the top portion of my nail and painted over it with Sally Hansen Green Tea. Finally for those nails, I added a thin white line using the White Liner Polish from Born Pretty Store.

The pink glitter is Sally Hansen Razzle Dazzler.

It’s all topped off with two coats of HK Girl.

Easter Nail Art (Sort of)

I realised today that it’s Easter tomorrow and I haven’t done a single piece of Easter themed nail art! I haven’t really been feeling the Easter vibes this year so even when I sat down to do something Easter-y, this is what came out… absolutely nothing to do with the holiday! It’s more of a general spring mani but I think it’s the closest to Easter I’m gonna get this year!

My base colour for this nail art is Maybelline Ceramic Blue.

I used BK Matt White to stamp on the dandelion designs from MoYou London Plate Pro 04 and the tiny polka dots from Pro 10.

I applied a coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast and let everything dry.

Finally, I added the chevron details using Nail Vinyls Mini Chevrons and Rimmel Blueberry Whizz.

NDLacquers Aurora Swatch with Nail Art

Today I found out that I topped The Crumpet’s Reader poll for ‘Nail Art Blog of the Year‘ and I want to thank everyone that put in a good word for me – you know who you are, you sly dogs! And of course, a big thanks to Debbie for holding the poll in the first place! To be voted top of the poll by readers is such an honour because you guys really know your stuff when it comes to nail blogs and if it weren’t for such a tight, amazingly friendly and accepting community, none of us bloggers would be here! So, thank you for a brilliant end to the year.Today’s nail art features a gradient (it’s there I promise!) and a pretty glitter from NDLacquers called Aurora. It’s one of three in Natali’s Holiday Collection but it’s an all-year-rounder in my book. I’m only wearing one coat in this swatch and the coverage is fantastic. This is one indie brand you’re going to want to keep your eye on in 2014 – I can feel it in my bones!

I used two coats of Revlon Cloud as my base colour and created a super subtle gradient using Maybelline Ceramic Blue. Gradient tutorial here.

The stamping is from MoYou Plate Pro 04. This plate is no longer on the site but the same design is available in XL size on the Pro 07 Plate. I stamped using BK Matt White.

The glitter is NDLacquers Aurora and I topped it all off with two coats of Rica Glossy Glam.
