31DC2012: Day 13 Animal Print REAL FEATHERS!

I’ve been burning the candle at both ends this week and as a result I’ve either been too busy or too tired to blog. So this is actually Thursday’s post, just super late!
I’ve been looking forward to this day since before the challenge started. I bought these feathers in Hobbycraft weeks ago and I knew they’d be my animal print mani. I’m in huuuge love with this nail art but, being a picker, it didn’t last more than a day before I pulled the feathers off!
You can see Cris’s animal print mani here and Rie’s right about here.

It’s so hard to explain how I did this, but I’ll try anyway! I painted on two coats of Essie Glamour Purse and let it dry completely. I picked out feathers that were already the right size for my nail and just cut off a bit more than I needed to cover my nail.
Next I added a thick coat of top coat and placed the end of the feather on my nail. I licked my finger and used it to gently push the feathers in to the clear polish. At this point there is still feather hanging off the end of my nail that I’ll cut off later.
After doing that on every finger and letting it dry a bit, I added about 3 coats of Seche Vite to every nail to smooth it over. Finally, I used some scissors to cut the feathers at the end and then a nail file to file the leftovers right down to my own nail.

    31DC2012: Day 12 Stripes

It’s the day before Halloween and I’m only just posting my slightly Halloweeny themed manicure. Much like last year, this one was also very last minute. I needed some stripes for Day 12 of the 31 Day Challenge and I needed some colours so I went with Orange and Black, the most Halloweeny colours I could think of.
Hopefully, I’ll have a proper Halloween manicure up tomorrow but we’ll have to see how things go!
As always, Rie at Nails and Noms and Cris at Let Them Have Polish will have some killer manis for you today too!

I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Sun Kissed as my base colour and freehanded on the stripes with a Nail Art Brush. I topped it with two coats of Seche Vite.

    31DC2012: Day 11 Polka Dots

Today’s gonna be a quick one, I’ll just run through the polishes I used and let you get on with your day!
For most of my nails, I used NYC Water Street Blue and used a dotting tool to create the polka dots with Barry M Blueberry. My accent nail uses Blueberry as a base colour and glequins from Born Pretty Store. I used two top coats of Seche Vite to finish up.

    31DC2012: Day 10 Gradient Nails

So I don’t know if you heard, but gradients are kind of a big deal around here! Since I popped my gradient cherry, I just can’t get enough of the things. I think this might be my favourite colour combination yet. These were just the two polishes within reaching distance at the time but they work together perfectly together and this is one of my favourite combos to date.
Don’t forget to pop over to Cris and Rie‘s blogs to see their gradients today!

I used Sally Hansen Ion as my base colour. Before I started on the gradient I applied Liquid Pallisade* around my nails to prevent too much mess. I created the gradient using NYC Water Street Blue, following this tutorial. I finished it off with two coats of Seche Vite to smooth it over.

    31DC2012: Day 9 Rainbow Nails

When you think rainbow, you think bright, happy, colorful right? WRONG! Today’s ‘rainbow’ mani is kind of dreary but I think that’s just the way I was feeling when it came to painting this mani. Also, my rainbow is upside down… not the sign of quality craftsmanship and attention to detail but hey ho, here we are anyway!
Don’t forget to see what rainbow manicures Rie and Cris created today!

I used Sally Hansen Ion* as my base colour, which is my new very favourite greige, and attached the glequins while the second coat was still wet on the middle finger.
I finished it all off with two coats of Seche Vite.

    31DC2012: Day 8 Metallic Nails

Day 8 of the 31 Day Challenge calls for Metallic Nails and what’s more metallic than actual metal?! The gold stuff you see on my nails is this very interesting Nail Art Foil* from Born Pretty Store. It comes in sheets scrunched up in to little pots and it’s so light and thin that it’s barely even there. I just used a pair of tweezers to tear the foil up in to little pieces and place it on to my nails and I love the outcome. Since I don’t think I’ll be shedding out up to £30 for The Man With The Golden Gun any time soon, this is a great $6 alternative!

I used Cult Nails Vicious as my base colour. I painted one coat and then, one nail at a time, added a second coat and attached the foil while it was still tacky. I finished up with one coat of Seche Vite but it could have used two just to even out any bumps.

As always, hop on over to Let Them Have Polish and Nails and Noms to see what Cris and Rie have come up with today!

31DC2012: Day 7 Black and White Nails

I LOVE these nails! They remind me of Mint Humbugs. I didn’t really think I would create anything I liked with today’s challenge, Black and White, but as always, sticking to something simple has worked out for me. I think adding the glitter was a good choice, and not going too overboard with it was an even better one!
Don’t forget to visit Cris and Rie to see their black and white manis today!

I used two coats of Barry M White as my base colour and then used a striping brush to paint on striped of W7 Black. The glitter accents were created using W7 Cosmic Black, a  fine silver glitter in black jelly which sets this mani off perfectly. I finished up with two top coats of Seche Vite.
