Il Etait Un Vernis: Once Upon a Time Collection Swatches

Once Upon a Time Nail Polish Collection

Once Upon A Time is the debut collection from Il Etait Un Vernis, the indie brand launched by two fabulous french nail bloggers – Vernis en Folie and De tout et de Rien. The brand launched in late 2014 and has gone from strength to strength with 2 further colour collections and a nail care range added to the roster since. What really draws me to this brand is the fascinating finishes and ‘something for everyone’ approach to each collection.

Every polish from Il Etait Un Vernis is 5-free and vegan. Designed in France and manufactured in Australia, I can safely say this is one of the most stunning collections I’ve ever seen. All 5 of these shades took my breath away when I first laid eyes on them. There are 4 scattered holographic polishes plus a sparkling gold (also holographic) glitter. The holos all have a jelly-like consistency which makes them incredibly glossy and smooth to apply while the glitter is dense enough to provide full coverage or perfect worn over another shade as a topper. Let’s take a closer look…

Il Etait Un Vernis | Beyond Words Pink Nail Polish Swatch

    Beyond Words

    – 3 Coats + Top Coat
Let’s dive straight in with the show-stopper! Beyond Words is a devastatingly gorgeous fuchsia shade packed with holographic particles and bright pink flecks. The super-shine is strong with this one but I always add a top coat for durability. Straight up my favourite pink in a long time and my pick from the collection.

Il Etait Un Vernis | Crush on Blue Nail Polish Swatch

    Crush on Blue

    – 3 Coats + Top Coat
If you’re looking for a royal blue with a twist, look no further than Crush on Blue. Smooth application in 3 coats.

Il Etait Un Vernis | Light Box Black Holographic Glitter Polish

    Light Box

    – 3 Coats + Top Coat
Light Box has a slightly thicker formula than the others but it was smooth enough to apply without any issues. There’s something very luxurious about a black holographic and the blue flecks are a genius touch.

Il Etait Un Vernis | Live, Love, Laugh Gold Glitter Nail Polish Swatch

    Live, Love, Laugh

    – 3 Thin Coats Over Bare Nails + Top Coat
With three coats of Live, Love, Laugh on my naked nails, there are still a few spots where you can see through but only if you look very closely. With all that light bouncing around, the naked spots are invisible to the naked eye and it looks just like you dipped your nails in glitter!

Il Etait Un Vernis | No Comment - Coral Holographic Nail Polish Swatch

    – 3 Coats + Top Coat
No Comment is a very summery shade and one of those in-between shades that’s hard to describe so I’ll just let the pictures do most of the talking. I wouldn’t quite class this as a coral but perhaps a bright red with orange tendencies!

    Easter Fan Brush Nail Art

Fan Brush Nail Art | The Nailasaurus

Happy Easter everyone! The long weekend couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve had the chance to catch up with lots of blog admin, project work and even paint some actual nail art! Between indulging in a delicious Sunday Lunch and snuggling up under a blanket to watch a TV marathon while eating too much chocolate, I thought I’d take the chance to post my Easter Nails.

You know those weird fan brushes you always get lumped with when you buy a new set? I always used to throw them straight in the bin but it turns out they can actually be used for something! I followed this tutorial by ‘Simple Nail Art Designs’ on YouTube and couldn’t be happier with the finished look. It was a quick technique to use, so easy to do, and it looks very profesh!

    The Nail Art

I started with Barry M Rose Hip for my base colour.
The lines were created using a fan brush with Kriston Shade 52 (turquoise), NYC Wild With Passion (pink) and NYC Lavender Blossom (purple).
It’s all finished off with two coats of Glisten & Glow HK Girl.

piCture pOlish Eerie Swatch and Mini Review

    The Nailasaurus piCture pOlish Eerie

Eerie is Emily (of Very Emily)’s creation in collaboration with piCture pOlish. It’s a soft lavender shade with holo particles which peek out in the sunlight. You can read all about Emily’s inspiration here. I love that the tagline for this polish is a Captain Janeway quote! As a kid, I remember watching Star Trek with my dad on the weekends and just thinking she was the coolest lady on TV! Now every time I catch a glimpse of the Eerie bottle, it reminds of those Sundays. Read more

I just wanted to check in here and let you know that I’m not going anywhere, I’m just a little preoccupied! Read more

OPI Fifty Shades of Grey Collection Swatches

So you might have heard of this novel turned movie phenomenon, Fifty Shades of Grey? Even if you’re not a fan of E.L. James’ work, OPI have released a collection of shades for all the lacquer lovers out there to mark the release of the movie. I was very excited for this collection as I do love dark tones and I think grey is such a classy colour to mix in to any look. While I wasn’t blown away by the polishes here, one does stand out for me. Read on for my swatches and thoughts on the collection. Read more

Newness: DIY Nailcals and Models Own Spring HyperGels

    DIY Nails Foil Nailcals

I’ve always quietly wondered if and/or when my creativity would ever dry up and I feel like perhaps now is that time. I don’t think it’s gone for good, but I’m definitely in the middle of a long drought. The feeling’s been creeping in ever since late last year but for a while, I pushed on and forced myself to create new things. Only recently did I allow myself just let go – I decided that if there was nothing I was excited to create or blog about, it wasn’t worth pressuring myself. Although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a little voice in the back of my mind the whole time (however quiet and distant) making me feel guilty, counting the days since I last blogged. Video: Gradient Nail Art Stamping Tutorial

Gradient Stamping Tutorial | The Nailasaurus

In between running a mountain of errands and hanging out with my dog this weekend, I managed to squeeze in a video tutorial. I’ve been putting it off for a while (like 3 months, a while) but suddenly had a surge of determination to just get it done. I wish my brain worked this way all the time. And while I’m making wishes, if the weekend could be twice as long that would be nice too! Read more
