Load N Vote Nail Art Contest!

This month, I’ve teamed up with a new website called Load N Vote to bring you my first Nail Art Contest!

All you have to do is upload a picture of your nail art to be in with a chance of winning Essie’s 2012 Summer Collection, Bikini So Teeny (swatches here)!! The best part is, the contest is open worldwide!

There is no theme to this contest, just enter your most impressive nail art using whichever tools and techniques you want to. Show us your skillzz and the public will vote for a winner.

My favourite part about the Load n Vote way of doing things is the fool proof voting process. All the entries go in to an algorithm, voters are shown two entries at time and must pick their favourite until every entry has been seen. The design that proves most popular throughout the whole voting period wins. Simple as that and there’s no fear of it becoming a popularity contest, it’s completely down to you and your mad skills. So, ladies, brushes at the ready and it’s time to sprinkle some sparkle!!

Today’s nail art is based on the site’s logo and I added some glitter for good measure! After all, I can’t tell you to go and enter if I’m not gonna put some work in myself! Check below for all the dates and info about entering.

Terms

The contest is open worldwide

You can enter any nail design at all as long as it’s your own work

The picture you submit must show at least four fingers

It can be a brand new design or one that you’ve done in the past

One entry per account

Time Frame

As the site name suggests, there is a loading period and a voting period.

You can load your design from now until the last day of the month – June 30th at 11.59pm EST

At the stroke of midnight on June 30th, the contest rolls straight over to the voting phase which will run until July 20th at 11:59am EST.

Because I know I can always figure these things out easier if there’s a good visual, I’ve made us a little timeline to avoid any confusion!

Superheroes Challenge: Marvel Villain… We Are Venom!

Welcome to the Heroes and Villains challenge! I’m so excited about this challenge, I love love love nerdy nail art so I know I’m going to be creating some kick-ass manis over the next four weeks and I’m sure the other ladies will too. I can’t wait to see what we all come up with.

In case you missed it, I posted all the details of the challenge on Sunday. This week, it’s Marvel and today a nasty villain has come to town. I chose Venom who normally appears as Spider-Man‘s arch enemy! I can’t think of much else to say today so I’ll just leave you with the pictures!

I used W7 Black as my base colour. All the white detail was done with White Acrylic Paint and the grey is Rimmel Grey Matter.

Black and Greydient

Sorry for my short absence. Two days doesn’t seem like much but I get really fidgety and on edge when I haven’t blogged for a few days! I ended up having one of those weekends that makes you look forward to the week! Nothing seemed to go quite right for me and tonight is the first chance I’ve had to chill out and paint my nails.
I wasn’t sure how it would work, trying to create a gradient with a creme and a holographic polish, but I proved that it could be done with my Purple Skittle mani from a few days ago and I really love the combo. I’ve nearly exhausted every colour scheme for gradients so I abandoned colours altogether today and went monochrome!

The base colour is Rimmel Grey Matter and I added A-England Bridal Veil to create the gradient following this gradient nail art tutorial.

Cult Nails Vicious Skittle Art

I think I know why I’ve been completely obsessed with mix and matching my manis recently. I realised it’s just an excuse for every nail to be an accent nail! I like to just paint on a base colour and rummage through my supplies until I get ideas. Today’s center piece is Cult Nails Vicious which is one of my absolute favourite purple polishes.

Here’s a close up of the Max Factor Fantasy Fire with the light coming from two different angles. You can see the way it flashes from gold-red to copper-green. Gooorgeous!

Here’s my best Chalkboard Nails pose! Can I pull it off with Sarah’s prowess or shall I stick to the bottle poses?

Steven Tyler Nail Art. Yes, that guy from Aerosmith!

I was watching the MTV Movie Awards today and, of course, paying special attention to all the celebrities’ nails! Can you believe the ones that stood out to me the most were Steven Tyler’s, of all people? I noticed he was rocking some simple black and greige nail art and I knew I had to recreate it straight away.

I spent a bit of time searching for a picture, and it would seem that his signature look. You can see some good pictures of his nails here and here. All I can say is, what a dude! How many guys do you know that could rock a nice bit of nail art? But then I suppose not all guys are rock stars that can pretty much do whatever the eff they want!

My base colour is E.L.F. Desert Haze and I used a striping brush and W7 Black to create the stripes and then added my own little flair by accenting it all with some Barry M Silver Foil.

Go On… Have Another!

I’m back to the gradients! The Gradient Tutorial I posted about a month ago has really blown up and I really want to thank everyone who shared it on their blogs/twitter/pinterest/wherever!

I used to really hate making tutorials but the amazing response to that one has made me change my mind. They always seemed so much hassle to create but now I’ve found a ‘tutorial creating’ style that works for me, hopefully they’ll become less of a chore and become way more fun for me to write and you to read!

It’s not your eyes playing tricks on you, this manicure does look very pink toned even though the polishes are definitely purples (and the names prove it!). I must have got the white balance wrong on my camera, whoopsy!

I used No7 Lucky Lilac as a base coat and Barry M Bright Purple as the second colour in the gradient following this tutorial.

Diamond Jubilee Nail Art!

In the UK this weekend, we’re celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee! This is only the second Diamond Jubilee in British history so I think Elizabeth deserves a good party. Today, the 2nd of June, marks exactly 60 years since she was crowned Monarch in 1953 but the celebrations are going on right through to Tuesday with a long bank holiday weekend. This does nothing but enforce stereotype that Brits are obsessed with royalty and the Queen. But hey, it’s all good fun if you ask me! I hope everyone has a great weekend, whatever you’re up to!

I spent way too long on this manicure. It took at least two hours because I kept making mistakes and having to restart nails so by the time I’d finished, I felt like my back had been snapped in half!
