Disappearing Nail Art: Del Sol Colour Change Nail Polish

When I was about fourteen, a family friend brought back a few trinkets back from their tropical holiday as gifts and mine was a bottle of Del Sol colour changing nail polish that changes when it’s in sunlight. At the time, it was one of only 4 polishes that I owned and I wore it to death (but only on the weekends of course – nail polish was too scandalous for school).  I’ve never known where you could buy it until I was contacted by colourchangenailpolish.com who are Del Sol’s UK retailer and I couldn’t wait to relive the excitement of stepping outside in to the sun to see the colour change in front of my eyes.
The sun is finally shining today providing me the perfect opportunity to get some good photographs of these Del Sol polishes and capture my disappearing nail art! It was a lot to think about when I was painting the nail art as I had to consider the colour now and the colour it would be when I went out in the sun, then decide if the combinations would work. Luckily, I think it all ties together quite nicely!
For the chevron nails, I used Barry M Rose Hip as my base colour then applied one thin coat of Glisten & Glow HK Girl. When it was dry, I applied some Chevron Stencils and painted over it in Del Sol Pretty in Pink, then quickly removed the strips.
Indoors, Pretty in Pink is a beautiful pearly shade that shimmers ivory to a gold pink and outside, it transforms to fuschia. The chevron detail is only visible inside if you catch it in just the right light and I love the contrast when I see it outside in its full glory.
For the other nails, I painted on a base of Barry M White and, again topped it with HK Girl. This time, I just placed one 2mm straight stencil down the centre of my nail and painted each colour on either side of the strips. The Blue to Green polish is Del Sol Electrik! and the Pink to Purple is Del Sol Foxy.
I really like both sides of Foxy but the green that comes out of Electrik isn’t quite to my taste. It’s a shame because the baby blue that shows up indoors is a gorgeous colour.
