For this mani I used two coats of Essie Lollipop (the moons) as a base coat and then freehanded on Essie Bordeaux, a deep maroon, for the rest. I used a nail art brush first for the crisp line and a bit of filling, then I used the brush from inside the bottle for the rest. I had to use about 3 coats of Bordeaux to get it looking opaque so there was a huge bump where the colours meet!
I finished it off with a coat of Seche Vite which did a little to smooth out the bump but not much. I need to think a bit further ahead next time I do a half moon and make sure I pick a top colour that's opaque in one coat!Twitter ♥ Bloglovin' ♥ Tumblr

I don't even really notice the 'bump' it's a pretty half moon mani. Lovely colours youve used here.x
ReplyDeleteThose colors are absolutely gorgeous together! Seems like it's pretty simple to do also, so I must give it a try very soon! :-)
ReplyDeleteLove these and the colour combo! Can't believe you did it freehand, serious skills :-) x
ReplyDeleteLooks so beautiful - I love the color combination
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the few colored half-moons that I have actually liked. I think it's the color combination. I really love deep, rich reds, and I like that you kept the contrast fairly low.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I really love it!
ReplyDeleteI don't see the bump either, but i love how squishy it looks and how the halfmoon line is crisp yet soft, i don't think one could achieve that using a one-coater for the top color :)
ReplyDeleteI had the same bumpy problem too! I used no top coat so it's crazily visible. Here http://nailartoverdose.blogspot.com/2012/12/just-old-half-moon-manicure-i-did-few.html
