31DC2012: Day 2 Orange Nails

Welcome to Day 2 of the challenge! Today calls for orange nails but I added in a little zig zag on the tips which was inspired by Nailside‘s signature style. Only I pretty much hate scotch tape so I just freehanded the tips with a brush!

I used No7 Tangy as my base colour and Essence Irreplaceable for the tips. It’s finished off with two coats of Sally Hansen Advanced Hard as Nails.

Cristina and Rie will have some kick ass orange nails for you today too!

Nautical Nail Tips

I’ve run out of ideas this week so I was gonna do a swatch post today. Then I realised I have absolutely nothing interesting to swatch so I wanted some simple nail art. Whenever I tell myself I’m going to do something ‘simple’, it nearly always takes longer than, say, a full stamping manicure because I get caught up in the ‘simple’ details! I suck at drawing tips but I always think this time I’ll nail it, even though I never do!

So basically, I’m trying to say that when short on time, I should not attempt tips. Even if it seems like a simple option.

The base colour is Cult Nails Cruisin Nude. I used Barry M White and then Miss Sporty 320 with a striping brush for the tip detail. I finished it off with two coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

Sun Kissed Tips

Summer weather has returned to Britain, but probably for a few days at most, so I thought I’d feature this sunny shade today. I pretty much detest extreme heat, even when it’s caused by sunshine so I’ve opted out of every exotic family holiday since 2007! I really only look forward to Summer because it means I get to rock a pair of Aviators every day. I’ve been less of a summer grinch the last few years and always try my best to join in with everyone’s excitement whenever the sun is shining.

I think tips are quite boring but I always get cravings to wear them so I try to work in another element that will spice it up a bit. I was kind of stuck for spicy elements today so I just added an extra line. It’s very simple but quite sophisticated and I like it!

The base colour is Sally Hansen Sun Kissed and I used Barry M Gold Foil and a striper brush to paint on the tips and the extra little line.

All That Glitters Is Gold

I know nail art posts have been scarce around here recently but I’m really low on ideas! I’ve mostly been wearing black on my nails because I’m going through a bit of a moody phase haha. Black and gold such a good combination to wear on your nails when you want to rock the dark look but glam it up and not look too gothic.

I finally got around to updating my Stamping Polishes page today so head on over if you want to see my list of regular polishes that work for stamping. You can find the page any time in the sidebar about half way down the page under the ‘features’ heading.

I used A-England Lancelot as a base and a gold glitter Kiss Nail Striper that my bestie brought me back from a trip to Canada to paint the tips. The rhinestone is from the Mash wheel and I used two top coats of NYC In A New York Minute to finish it off.

Classic But Not

Since my Lana Del Rey inspired manicure [here], I’ve been completely obsessed with the combination of nude and red polish. Although I think this mani could have used a bit of bling, I still love it!

The base colour is Cult Nails Cruisin Nude and I used a nail art brush to paint on the tips with La Femme Cherry Red and the lines with W7 Black.

Sorry about the variations in colouring of the pictures, my camera’s white balance function seems to be going through a rough patch!

Bit of This. Bit of That.

This is one of those mani’s that I was constantly looking at and thinking ‘I could add this’. There’s a very real danger there of it turning into a tacky abomination of a manicure but I think I managed to reel myself in enough to leave it at a slightly over the top mumble jumble of things!

It was originally just a nude nail and I wasn’t going to apply any kind of nail art but I wanted to try out my Barry M Cyan Blue for stamping because I’ve had it for quite a while and it’s gone too thick to really paint my nails with anymore. It actually worked really well! It would not have been this opaque when I first bought it but over time as it’s thickened, it has turned in to a stamping polish!

The glitter is one that I found in a £1 bucket. It’s not really packed with glitter so it’s really just for layering. It reminds me of China Glaze Medallion. It’s got gold glitter and holographic hexagonal pieces.

Flashy Franken

I was having a dilemma on Friday night. I couldn’t pick out a single colour from my 150+ collection which I felt like wearing on my nails. At Marina’s amazing suggestion on twitter, I decided to franken myself a new one.

I had seen this mani by Erika a while ago and knew as soon as I saw it that I wanted something similar, so I decided to aim for a light pink with gold shimmer much like China Glaze Pink-Rox-E and I think what I ended up with is a pretty good match, if I do say so myself.

I mixed this shade from BYS Tickle Me Pink, an ancient, very sheer gold from Collection 2000 and a tiny smidge of BYS Metallic Fuschia.

Then to spice it up a little, I freehanded some gold tips with a little black line to emphasise them. I’ve done this a few times recently with different colour combinations, but they normally turn out really messy though so I haven’t been photographing them. I freehanded the tips with Sally Hansen Amber Chrome and used Rimmel Black Satin for the lines applied with one of these little brushes from Born Pretty Store which made all the difference when it came to keeping the lines neat.
