Cinco De Mayo, But Not Really!

Despite my obsession with skulls, I’ve never attempted a sugar skull before. Now I know why, they’re very tricky to paint on to your nails! I don’t really love this outcome but for a first try, it’ll do!

The base colour is Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream and the Sugar Skull is freehanded with a striping brush and acrylic paints. Then I added some Barry M Blue Glitter with a sponge for the gradient effect. The chevron is freehanded and the yellow stripe is acrylic paint.

The nail art comes easy to me but assembling words in to cohesive sentences seems like such an effort at the moment, so I hope you don’t mind me just posting pictures.

I used Barry M Bright Purple as a base and Barry M Silver Foil for the gradient (tutorial here)

Black and Greydient

Sorry for my short absence. Two days doesn’t seem like much but I get really fidgety and on edge when I haven’t blogged for a few days! I ended up having one of those weekends that makes you look forward to the week! Nothing seemed to go quite right for me and tonight is the first chance I’ve had to chill out and paint my nails.
I wasn’t sure how it would work, trying to create a gradient with a creme and a holographic polish, but I proved that it could be done with my Purple Skittle mani from a few days ago and I really love the combo. I’ve nearly exhausted every colour scheme for gradients so I abandoned colours altogether today and went monochrome!

The base colour is Rimmel Grey Matter and I added A-England Bridal Veil to create the gradient following this gradient nail art tutorial.

Go On… Have Another!

I’m back to the gradients! The Gradient Tutorial I posted about a month ago has really blown up and I really want to thank everyone who shared it on their blogs/twitter/pinterest/wherever!

I used to really hate making tutorials but the amazing response to that one has made me change my mind. They always seemed so much hassle to create but now I’ve found a ‘tutorial creating’ style that works for me, hopefully they’ll become less of a chore and become way more fun for me to write and you to read!

It’s not your eyes playing tricks on you, this manicure does look very pink toned even though the polishes are definitely purples (and the names prove it!). I must have got the white balance wrong on my camera, whoopsy!

I used No7 Lucky Lilac as a base coat and Barry M Bright Purple as the second colour in the gradient following this tutorial.

It would seem that I’m hell-bent on trying every possible colour combination for gradient nails and I may even venture in to 3 colours soon. I’ve been insanely uninspired when it comes to nail art recently, despite having plenty of new tools and colours to play with. It’s almost like I’m so overwhelmed with choice that my brain just frizzles every time I think about it! So I’m sorry for the simple/boring nail art I’ve been sporting recently and hopefully things will pick up soon!

I’m back to doing gradients again! In the tutorial I wrote, the sponge I’m using is a bathroom sponge and is quite porous. A lot of other bloggers have been using make-up sponges to create their gradients and many of you lovely lot suggested I try one myself to get a smoother fade and less ‘bumpy’ gradient. It definitely works – make up sponge > bath sponge for gradient nails!

I used A-England Princess Tears as a base and then added A-England Bridal Veil to create a gradient following this tutorial.

Gradient Nails Part Trois

It’s just a quick one tonight as it’s already past 1am and I’m hella sleepy!

I hope you’re not sick of the gradients yet, I’m certainly not and I’m having a great time trying it out with different colour combinations. So far I’ve tried Pink and Girly, Bright and Fruity and today is Soft and Neutral. I think it’s my favourite combo so far!

I used E.L.F Desert Haze as a base and then NYC Lexington Yellow following this tutorial. The top coat I used to glaze it is so thick, it’s practically a solid so it’s bubbled like crazy but the bubbles are not at all noticeable in real life unless you look very, very closely!
