    NY Fashionail Week Day 5: Prabal Gurung

    This is by far my favourite New York Fashion week nail art design which is why I saved it until last! The drippy manicure is nothing new, but I love this colour combination so much. The design was created by Sally Hansen’s Tracy Lee for the Prabal Gurung show.

    I used two coats of OPI Samoan Sand as my base colour and freehanded the blood drips with Cult Nails Quench and a striping brush. All finished off with two coats of Essence Better Than Gel.

    Sandy Sandwich

    The idea of a neutral Jelly Sandwich popped in to my head this morning and I spent all day trying to figure out which polishes I wanted to use. I knew it would look really good with some gold multi glitter but at the time I totally forgot that I do in fact own one of those! Instead, I reached for this colourful concoction with some skepticism. 
    I’m so glad I tried this combination though because I love it! Suspending the glitter between a few coats of polish has taken the harsh metallic of the tiny hexes away and made it look like matte glitter. The pieces that look white are in fact silver in the bottle and the little yellow ones are gold. Scroll down a bit for the full recipe!

    Two coats of Cult Nails Cruisin Nude
    One coat (and a few strategic strokes) of Technic Carnival
    Two coats of OPI Somoan Sand
    One coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast. I got impatient and painted it on before the OPI was dry which is why it’s come out a bit streaky.

    Wibble Wobble, Polish on a Plate

    Fun fact – In the UK (as opposed to the US), Jello is called Jelly and Jelly is called Jam. Wrap your brain around that for a second! Also, have some context for the title.

    This is my first ever Jelly sandwich! It just seemed to slot together this week after I got my first ‘proper’ jelly in a package from the States and spotted this multi glitter in The Original Factory Shop yesterday.
    For those of you that aren’t familiar with jelly sandwiches, the process involves layers of jelly polish and layers of glitter or other special kinds of polish painted alternatively on the nails so the glitter looks buried underneath.
    I didn’t get too overzealous with layering on this one because I didn’t want a mani that would take five hours to dry! I kind of cheated and used a crème first to cut down on the amount of coats I’d need to get it opaque. You can find all the details of the polishes and the order I used them in down the page a little.

    You may also notice my funky new watermarks. I finally figured out how to get text to follow a curve in Photoshop so I had a good time playing with that effect. I’m not sure if I’ll be keeping them this way because it takes much longer than just stamping on the straight version but for now, they’re lots of fun! I’d like to know what you think if them, do they detract from the pictures or do you prefer the way they’re integrated instead of randomly placed?

    OPI Black Shatter And Other Cracking News

    Thanks very much to the wonderful Diana @ The Girl With A Bow for providing me with my 2nd ever OPI polish. She held a quick giveaway last month and I was the lucky winner of a bottle of Black Shatter. I know I’m kind of late hopping on the bandwagon and there are probably hundreds of swatches of this polish all over the blogsphere but I thought I’d post it anyway since I love it even more than I expected to. I used Barry M Cyan Blue as a base then just slapped on a coat of the Black Shatter. Easy Peasy.
    I think the crackle polishes that are gaining popularity fast this year are such a quick and simple way to make your nails stand out from the crowd. Or at least for now, what with every brand and their sister releasing a cracking range! But with all the colours that are now available and the effects you can get from applying the polish in other ways than the traditional cuticle-to-tip such as side-to-side or zig-zagging, you’re sure to find a combination that’s wholly yours.
    For the Brits among us who don’t have much access to OPI and China Glaze, you’ll be pleased to know that Barry M are extending their crackle range and have now released their ‘Instant Nail Effects’ polish in Blue, Pink and White following the success of the Black (info here).
    Models Own are also releasing a collection of 9 ‘Smash-Up’ polishes. The Black and Silver will be available to buy in Boots from April 20th. The other 7 vivid colours will be available to buy on their website this month.

    My blog posts may be more intermittent than usual/non-existent for a while as I’m staying at my parents house while my ankle is healing up and have hardly any nail supplies with me.
