Rainbow Fish Glitter Placement Nail Art

Rainbow Fish Nail Art // The Nailasaurus

You may remember a mani from last month that contained a few acccent nails with glitter placement resembling the Rainbow Fish. Well, I loved the accent so much that the next day I went to town on the rest and did a full hand of rainbow fish nails! I took some pictures I never posted on the blog which I came across as I was deleting some old files and thought you might like to see. I think all together, this mani probably took close to 2 hours but SO worth it.

Geometric Nail Art with Barry M Malibu

Nicole by OPI Lay it on the Lime Nail Art // The Nailasaurus

What would you call a design like this? Where the lines meet up at the corners, but continue on in a different direction? I just feel like there must be a name for it! I’ve been through a few possibilities like ‘Alternate Chevrons’, ‘Crosshatch’ and ‘Weird Zig Zag Things’ but I just don’t think any of them are right. It’s been distracting me for a while now – a real mind bender!
To achieve the disconnected look, I used scotch tape to tape off half of my nail and applied rows of striping tape at an upward slant. Next, I painted over the tape with Barry M Malibu then removed all the tape as quickly as possible. I added one thin coat of HK Girl to dry the polish and then repeated on the other half of my nail.

Alexander McQueen S/S15 Inspired Nail Art

I spent a few hours last night browsing the Vogue galleries. Fashion never fails to provide mountains if inspiration for nail art so whenever I’m feeling a bit low on creativity, these talented designers can always spark something. Sometimes I find a piece I love in 2 minutes, sometimes it takes 2 hours! It took me quite a while to come across this beautiful dress from Alexander McQueen’s SS15 lookbook but it was nail art at first sight!
It’s been so long since I did intricate freehand nail art that I almost feel like I’ve lost the ability. Florals are always a good way to ease in to freehand nails and this pattern is the perfect mix of simple shapes with elements that are a bit trickier. My confidence has been restored a little and I’m going to build up to more adventurous freehand nail art.
I didn’t lay down a base colour for this nail art, just painted it straight on to my bare (base coated) nails which was a first for me. I started by painting on the outline of the flower with Barry M’s nail art pen and then used a nail art brush to add the colour. Finally, I painted the dark plum on the bare bits and topped it all with HK Girl.

    Watermelon Nail Art Tutorial

    Easy Watermelon Nail Art Tutorial
My Watermelon nails received a very warm reception when I posted them a few days back so I’m back with a tutorial for the look. I’ve seen so many takes on watermelon nails which is what inspired me to do some of my own and I think I put enough of a twist on it to make it something a bit new. The 3/4 border is a cute and simple trick that I really love and find myself going back to time and again. It works on every nail shape but I have to admit that I think it looks extra spectacular on square nails but I’m probably biased on that front. Digital high five to all my square sisters out there!

    I Been Dranking… Watermelon

Watermelon Nail Art with Nicole by OPI LeaPink for Joy
Watermelon Nail Art with Nicole by OPI LeaPink for Joy
Carrying on the fruit theme from last week’s Nailvengers post, I’ve opted for some Watermelon nail art today!
The Cosmo Blog Awards shortlist was announced today and I’m very pleased to say that this blog was shortlisted in the Best Established Beauty Blog category! Thank you very muchly to everyone that nominated me and if you want to vote for your favourites, you can do so here. I’m in the very first category near the bottom! This is the third year I’ve been nominated in the awards and I’m so grateful to have such amazing readers that think I deserve their nomination year after year. You guys are truly awesome… thank you!
For this nail art, I used Nicole by OPI LeaPink for Joy as my base colour and freehanded on the edge with Barry M Key Lime with a nail art brush
I used Sweet Color White Liner for the outline and then black acrylic paint for the seeds. Can you see where I made a whoopsie on the index finger? I think it blends pretty well!
It’s all topped off with a coat of Glisten & Glow HK Girl.

Nicole by OPI Seize the Summer Collection Swatches and Review

Nicole by OPI Seize the Summer Collection Swatches and Review
Seize the Summer is Nicole by OPI’s second collection that will be hitting shelves in the UK this summer consisting of 3 bright cremes and a glitter. I already reviewed the Roughles collection and I’m happy to say that Seize the Summer is another hit with me. At first glance, I didn’t have high hopes for this collection and while I never really warmed up to the glitter, the cremes are truly amazing and have already become firm favourites. You’ve already seen glimpses of them in my nail art so here are some proper swatches!

Nicole by OPI Lay it on the Lime Swatch
Lay it on the Lime is an almost neon yellowy green shade. It has a white undertone which compliments most skin tones and distinguishes it from true neons. I had to use 3 coats to banish all signs of streaking but the formula is thin enough that each coat dries quickly.

Nicole by OPI LeaPink for Joy Swatch
LeaPink for Joy is a perfect rosy pink. It’s feminine and extremely bold all at the same time. I used two coats with top coat.

Nicole by OPI Shaved Nice Swatch
Shaved Nice gives absolutely great coverage but I think the reason I just can’t come around is the mix of colours in here. There is silver and white with larger hexes of purple, rose gold and green. The green just seems a bit mismatched and without the green in there it would have a thumbs up from me.
Aside from my personal dislike of the green glitter, this is a really great glitter polish. I used one coat in the swatch over the other 3 shades from the collection. While you won’t get complete coverage with this, 3 coats over nude nails gives a really nice effect.

Swatch of Nicole by OPI The Coral of the Story
The Coral of the Story is, without a doubt, my favourite from the collection and my favourite coral shade ever! It’s as close as you can get to a sassy red while still being in Coral territory. I used two coats here for a perfect application.

Where to buy Nicole by OPI Seize the Summer

In the UK, the Seize the Summer collection will be available from July 30th in Superdrug stores and online. RRP £7.99.
These shades are already available to purchase in the US. Check Nicole by OPI’s stockist information for more info.
