    31DC2012: Day 23 Inspired by a Movie

I’m here with Day 23 of the 31 Day Challenge and the film I chose is Watchmen. We all know how I love everything superhero so this was the obvious choice as I’ve exhausted most of the other ones. If you haven’t seen the film, watch it!
This is the first really detailed freehand nail art I’ve done for absolutely ages and I love it! I wish I had more time these days to do nail art like this. I miss it!
Don’t forget to stop by Nails and Noms and Let Them Have Polish to see how they’re getting on with their challenges.

Thumb to pinky: Silk Spectre, Dr Manhattan, Watchmen, Rorschach (kind of!), The Comedian
All the details were freehanded with nail art brushes and here’s a run down of the polishes I used…
Urban Outfitters Denim Blue, Cult Nails Quench, Essie Mezmerised, Collection 2000 Sherbet Lemons, W7 Black, Barry M White, Deborah Lippmann Fashion*.
I also used white and black acrylic paint here and there for the small details.

Superheroes Challenge: Ultimate Villain… I’ll Be Back

I have a short attention span so when it comes to movies/tv shows/ books that involve a lot of time travel, I often end up completely clueless because my mind always trails off during those long talky parts when the most important details are revealed. However, I think I’ve seen the Terminator films enough times to put the pieces together and figure out (mostly) what is going on!
As for the Villain in this story, at least for the first movie, he is hella scary! I was allowed to watch The Terminator when I was still quite young thanks to a liberal Father! And I can remember how scared I was of this huge robot guy who could not be stopped!
I really like the Terminator franchise even though it’s had some low points *cough* T3 *cough* and I could talk about it all day. The nail art sort of turned in to a homage to the films rather than just the villain but I couldn’t help myself!

    Index to Pinky:
    Cyberdyne Systems
‘No Fate But What We Make’ – the carving left by Sarah Connor at the end of Terminator 2
    T-800
Glequins because I ran out of ideas!
I used acrylic paint to write ‘No Fate’ but the rest was done with nail polish.

Don’t forget to stop by the other challengees’ blogs to see who they chose!

Superheroes Challenge: Disney Hero… I Fight For The Users

As I mentioned earlier in the week that I’m really not a huge Disney fan. The fairytale stuff just gets on my nerves a bit and I couldn’t decide on a hero character that I really wanted to portray on my nails. Then a light bulb went on somewhere and I remembered that the Tron films are made by Disney. BINGO!
I went for a very minimalist approach and if I didn’t tell you this manicure was Tron themed, you may not be able to guess! It’s based on Tron’s suit from the first movie and my ring finger is supposed to be The Grid.

The base colour is Rimmel Grey Matter and I used a nail art brush with Barry M Cyan Blue for all the details.

Superheroes Challenge: Disney Villain… Off With Their Heads

Give me comic books over Disney any day! I’ve been really stuck for ideas this week but I think I’ve managed to come up with something decent. I really wanted to do Cruella De Vil because 100 Dalmatians is really the only Disney movie I remember watching as a kid – the 1996 live action version I mean! I just wasn’t much of a Disney child.
Well I ultimately decided on the Queen of Hearts because I’ve had a long day and I wanted something simple and easy. What a cop out, right! I loved Helena Bonham Carter’s portrayal of her in Tim Burton’s version but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the Disney animated original. I’m just full of disappointments today aren’t I?!

I used L’Oreal Resist and Shine Red, W7 Black, Barry M White, Barry M Gold Foil and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Sun Kissed. As always, the details were applied with a nail art brush.

As always, the other ladies taking part will have some awesome designs today too!

    Avengers Assemble!

I finally went to see The Avengers (or is it Avengers Assemble now?!) today! It was released last week here in the UK but today was the first chance I got to go and see it!
Of course, I loved it but I was distraught to find that there was no stinger at the end of the credits. Even though I’d already read that there was no final surprise on the UK release, I waited right until the very end out of habit and defiance anyway! I almost feel cheated that I went to see a Marvel movie and there was no credit cookie!
Well these are the nails I wore which I kind of threw on last night but you can see some more in detail Avengers nail art from the archives here.

The base colour is Rimmel My Denim and I used a coat of Girly Bits Cosmic Ocean on my pointer for a bit of sparkle. I used Barry M Silver Foil and black acrylic paint for the ‘A’.
I’m slowly falling in love with Rimmel polish. I’ve been finding a lot of them at bargain prices recently and although I probably wouldn’t pay full price (£3-5) for them, I find myself reaching for the ones in my collection a lot recently.

The Amazing Spider-Nails (Spider-man Nail Art)

So I’m sat here trying desperately to some up with an idea for some awesome nail art and I have my new Cult Nails colours on the desk next to me, I’m eyeing them up and browsing the internet pointlessly like I always do and I see that The Amazing Spider-Man is trending on Twitter… *lightbulb*
The reason for it trending is the 2nd trailer which hit the internet this week after its Super Bowl spot. I watched it first thing this morning which has renewed my excitement for the movie and my love affair with Marvel/Superhero nail art!
I used Cult Nails Quench as a base then freehanded the tips with Cult Nails Time Traveller using a nail art brush. All the details are also freehanded with Barry M Silver Foil and I outlined the eyes with black acrylic paint.

Day 23: Inspired by a Movie (V For Vendetta Nail Art)

Some of you may remember back to September when I did ‘Just Like The Movies‘ week? Well, I pretty much used up every idea I’ve ever had for movie manicures! A friend suggested I use a ‘V For Vendetta’ theme and I immediately jumped on that concept.

In case anyone hasn’t seen the movie, I won’t give away too many details but it’s loosely based on the events leading up to what is now known as Guy Fawkes Night (November 5th 1605 wiki). I don’t know how well the story is known in the U.S. but it’s a part of British history that every kid is taught about in school. Everyone I know that’s seen the movie really likes it, so if you haven’t seen it yet – you should!

Don’t forget to check out Cristina and Rie‘s Movie Manicures too!

Thumb to Pinky:  ‘V’, Rose, Fireworks, V himself, Government insignia
