♪♫ This could really be a good life…

This week is shaping up to be a very very good one! I had a job interview yesterday for a Christmas temporary position as a sales girl in a record shop which I nailed so I’ll be starting that next week. Then today, I got a call from another job I applied for which is basically a Chalet Girl position but without the Alps! It’s live-in so it also means I’ll be able to move out of parents’ place for a while. I have to go for an interview/trial kind of thing this Sunday and if I’m successful, I’ll start in January – I’ll keep you guys posted on that!
And to top it all off, this blog hit 2000 followers today! Thank you all so much for reading and following! I hope I say it often enough but I really don’t think I could say it enough. It means the world to me that you all like my little piece of the internet enough to keep coming back and showing your support. THANK YOU!
Today is a Wednesday so here comes the pink!

    Day 10: Gradient Nails

Today’s challenge is gradient nails and it’s also Wednesday which means PINK. Sorry for the brief post but I have such a busy day ahead, I even had to get up a little early to schedule this because I won’t have another spare minute today between work and evening plans. I’m going to see Charlie Simpson tonight which is super exciting!
Don’t forget to check out Cristina and Rie‘s gradient nails too!

    My Nails Are My Canvas

I’ve started using acrylic paint in my freehand nail art recently. It has it’s advantages and disadvantages over nail polish so I just thought I’d share my thoughts for any of you that are curious about acrylic paint and using it on your nails.
Why it’s better than nail polish
♥ It’s more pigmented. There’s no need to go over and over the same spot if
♥ It doesn’t dry out as quickly as polish. I blob out my colours on to a sheet of clear plastic, my ‘palette’ if you will, and when I use polish I’m constantly having to put out out new blobs of polish as it dries up. One blob of acrylic paint will last the whole manicure without drying up.
Why it’s worse than nail polish
♥ It’s hard to work with at first because it’s a different consistency to nail polish, so it just feels a bit alien. The best way to describe the difference is that it’s less forgiving than polish. You have to be much more careful with the brush. After a few goes, you get used to this though.
♥ It takes a bit more work to remove, but will come off with your regular polish remover.
I really like using acrylic paint and I’ll continue to use it since I think the pros far outweigh the cons. If you’re on the fence about trying it yourself, I say go for it, but find it cheap somewhere. I paid 99p per bottle in Ryman stationers.

    Would You Buyasaurus?

I’ve been thinking for a while about painting my own nail sets and selling them. Last week, I finally got round to ordering some sets after the lovely Paige gave me a link to a good seller on eBay. I need to do a bit more research about pricing etc. but I’m trying to gage whether anyone would be interested in buying my sets. They will mostly be freehand designs but I’ll take personalised orders for any nail design you’ve ever seen on this blog! So… would anyone consider buying a set of nails from me?

    Just a Sprinkling

I picked up this new  No7 polish last weekend just before my £5 off No7 voucher expired. I noticed that they have quite a few new shades and the ‘Speed Dry’ colours are gone, or rather replaced with ‘Stay Perfect’ equivalents, and every bottle is decorated with a ‘New brush and formula’ sticker. I loved the formula on this and the brush has a domed end which is much better than the old brushes which were long and thin with a square end.
I love this colour! It’s a summery turquoise and I was worried it would be too similar to Barry M Cyan Blue which I already have but I can definitely see a difference which I can’t describe. I just know it’s different. But maybe I’m seeing things to justify buying this colour!

Models Own Utopia and Purple Smash Up

It’s Pink Wednesday and after a few weeks since my last PW post I’m back with a brand new polish to show you!
I don’t have very many light colours in my stash at all, and even fewer are pastel shades. I decided to pick up this colour from Models Own since the summer is coming and I want to wear some brighter, more jolly colours on my nails! I wasn’t sure if I would like it but I really do and I’ve worn it quite a few times since I bought it.
The formula isn’t great on this polish which I can only describe as pasty. There was a lot of dragging and splotchiness but it’s such a pretty colour that I can put up with its pitfalls.

While I was in Boots I noticed a lone bottle of Purple Smash Up on the shelf so of course I grabbed it straight away. I was really surprised to see it as I didn’t know the colour ones were released yet, let alone that you could buy them in store – I thought you’d only be able to get them online – so I think I was just in the right time at the right place but I’m still puzzled as to why it was there because this was at least a week ago and as far as I’m aware, they only launched online five days ago.
I think the Models Own Smash Up polishes are the first decent crackles that are readily available here in the UK, especially now that there are quite a few colours to choose from with more on the way. The Barry M Nail Effects just don’t do it for me because the colours are so boring and basic.

If you enlarge the picture, you’ll see that this polish is metallic. There are tiny pieces of blue, purple and even pink glitter.

    Revision Nails

Civil Twilight – Letters From The Sky

I have a short attention span. I always have and probably always will. It doesn’t affect me all the time, just when I have to do something really boring! I can get totally engrossed in something I enjoy and waste away hours on end without even realising but as soon as I have to concentrate on something I’m not interested in for more than twenty minutes, everything else becomes infinitely exciting. Even cleaning starts to look like a more appealing option that what I’m doing.

It’s not a good trait to have when it comes to studying.
I have a lot of exams coming up and I kept giving up on my revision to paint my nails so I decided I needed a mani that I wouldn’t want to take off.
I know glitter is a massive pain to remove so I decided to apply a very thick, glitter manicure that I wouldn’t be tempted to remove any time soon due to all the effort that would entail.
I decided on Models Own Juicy Jules because I absolutely love this holographic glitter polish but I’ve never worn it on its own before.
There are loads of pictures because I just couldn’t narrow it down. This polish is so pretty.
    Gosh Holographic
    Models Own Juicy Jules
    NYC Top Coat
I applied 2 coats of Gosh Holographic first because I didn’t trust the glitter to cover the whole nail without leaving little gaps.
I probably used 4 or 5 coats of the Juicy Jules to make it super removal proof and then a few coats of NYC Top Coat to smooth things over.
    In Sunlight
And slightly blurry so you can see the rainbow.
    In Artificial Light
The colours sparkle more under artificial light. I spent a lot of time admiring the glitter when I was in my exam because there were fluorescent lights which made it super gorgeous and distracting!
    And blurry for the holo-ness…
