Just Give Me the Quick Gray by Gray

After a tip off on Twitter last weekend, I found myself browsing Fragrance Direct and I found out where they’ve been hiding all those discontinued Sally Hansen shades! That website has stackloads of them for £1.49 including my favourite off-white – Ion, and flittery gold – Gilded Lily. After Googling for swatches of all the shades I didn’t already have, I settled on 3 colours including this beauty – Gray by Gray. It’s a very rich, blue tinted, dark grey.

I started with a base colour of Sally Hansen Gray by Gray then stamped on the Paisley design from Bundle Monster Plate BM-315 using Essie Blue Rhapsody, a metallic blue.
The glitter on my ring finger is Chit Chat Ariel which I picked up in Poundland. I finished it all off with a coat of Sally Hansen Dries Instantly plus an extra two coat over the glitter.

Feeling Like A Sir

This week I found a gem of a bargain when I was in Asda. Don’t judge me when I tell you I buy clothes and jewellery from there on a regular basis! I was browsing the girls jewellery, as you do, and I spotted a little packet of moustaches. There was no indication on the packaging as to what they were but using my detective skills I quickly deduced that they were in fact, as I had immediately suspected, nail decals! Hidden away amongst the pink clip in hair streaks and plastic tiaras!

They were a complete steal at £1.50 for 48 stickers and they’re absolutely great. They’re kind of foamy and the adhesive layer is really thin so they’re easy to handle and stick to the nails really well. The first time I wore them, I used a top coat and they were unmovable. This time around I didn’t and the sticker slid off after about 12 hours of wear so go for a top coat if you’re going to try them yourself.

The smallest design, the curly one, immediately made me think of the ‘Feel Like A Sir‘ meme so of course I had to put it on my nails!

I used Sally Hansen Dorian Grey and A-England Guinevere as my base colours with a coat of WellNails Rock In The New Year on my thumb. The Mo’ decal is, as previously stated, from Asda and I painted on the Sir using a nail art brush and acrylic paint.
Everything is topped with a coat of No7 Stay Perfect Top Coat except for the sticker, I put that on after the top coat.

Happy New Year Nails!

I know it’s not really the New Year yet but I wanted to get this post up a bit early because I know most of you will be busy tonight (winky wink) and you might even be looking for some New Year nail ideas!

These are the nails I plan to be wearing come the stroke of midnight but if I’m honest with myself, there’s no way they’re going to last that long! I’m sure I’ll end up peeling them off and slathering my nails in glitter polish before the evening.

I guess now would be a good moment to look back and reflect on this year. In all honesty, it wasn’t really a big one for me. Aside from getting my first proper job, not a lot has happened in my life! My year was good, just not great compared to some of my other years! I really want to hear how you guys feel about 2012 so please let me know some of your highlights in the comments. Hopefully you can inspire me to make the most of the next 365 days.

I used 2 coats of A-England Dorian Gray as my base colour. One nail at a time, I painted on a coat of clear polish and placed on the glequins one by one in number formation (video tutorial here). Finally, I topped it all with two coats of NYC In A New York Minute.

Superheroes Challenge: Disney Hero… I Fight For The Users

As I mentioned earlier in the week that I’m really not a huge Disney fan. The fairytale stuff just gets on my nerves a bit and I couldn’t decide on a hero character that I really wanted to portray on my nails. Then a light bulb went on somewhere and I remembered that the Tron films are made by Disney. BINGO!

I went for a very minimalist approach and if I didn’t tell you this manicure was Tron themed, you may not be able to guess! It’s based on Tron’s suit from the first movie and my ring finger is supposed to be The Grid.

The base colour is Rimmel Grey Matter and I used a nail art brush with Barry M Cyan Blue for all the details.

Sorry for my short absence. Two days doesn’t seem like much but I get really fidgety and on edge when I haven’t blogged for a few days! I ended up having one of those weekends that makes you look forward to the week! Nothing seemed to go quite right for me and tonight is the first chance I’ve had to chill out and paint my nails.
I wasn’t sure how it would work, trying to create a gradient with a creme and a holographic polish, but I proved that it could be done with my Purple Skittle mani from a few days ago and I really love the combo. I’ve nearly exhausted every colour scheme for gradients so I abandoned colours altogether today and went monochrome!

The base colour is Rimmel Grey Matter and I added A-England Bridal Veil to create the gradient following this gradient nail art tutorial.

We Like to Touch

This mani was a bit-by-bit creation. By that I mean I picked my base colour, painted it on. Picked up my scotch tape and just kept adding! This is the fastest scotch tape mani I’ve ever made thanks to Cult Nails Wicked Fast which really does dry wickedly fast. I’ve switched top coats recently after the couple bottles of my favourite NYC top coat that I picked up most recently turned out to be really runny and not very hard drying. I was waking up every morning with sheet and hair marks all over my nails! I’m really hoping it’s just a bad batch and they haven’t changed the formula.

I used Rimmel Grey Matter as a base and Cult Nails Vicious and My Kind of Kool Aid for the patches which I marked off with scotch tape to paint. I used a coat of Cult Nails’ top coat, Wicked Fast in between each new layer to prevent the scotch tape from puling it all up and two coats on the top!

Party of 5 Glitters? Happy Birthday? Or just a Carnival?

When I spotted this polish yesterday I immediately thought of Deborah Lippmann’s Happy Birthday. It’s a close match and could easily pass for HB from a distance but I’d put it closer to Wet N Wild Party of 5 Glitters. Cris has a great comparison post here where she goes in to all kinds of crazy detail about the glitter.

It’s not really a polish I would normally pick for myself but I was convinced it was a dupe of a £15 bottle of polish for only £1 so I splurged (or not) and picked it up anyway. I’m actually surprised to find myself really liking this polish even though I wouldn’t normally touch multicoloured anything with a ten foot pole!

By the way the polish is called Carnival from a brand called Technic and I found it in The Original Factory Shop but I’ve also seen the brand in Bodycare.

I used Rimmel Grey Matter as a base colour and a sponge to apply Technic Carnival to the tips. I finished with a few coats of NYC In A New York Minute to glaze it.
