For this forest themed nail art, I wanted a soft and fuzzy background so I went to work with a sponge. I tried it in the style of a galaxy but I couldn’t quite achieve the look I was going for. In the end, I painted little blobs of colour straight on to the sponge and dabbed at it until I was happy. The result is barely even there, but I think it adds a subtle softness to the mani.

I started with a base of Sally Hansen Mojito and then applied a mixture of Graffiti Nails Ice White, piCture pOlish Chillax, Barry M Kiwi and Sally Hansen Green Tea with a sponge.

I topped it with a thin coat of Cirque Iris – a very sparse shimmer – and then stamped the design from Bundle Monster Plate BM407 with BK Matte White.

It’s all topped off with Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat.

When I was at a nail event a little while ago, this wi-fi design by Jessica Hoffman was on the nail art menu and I knew that I would have to try it for myself. I started this mani intending just to do the wi-fi all over but it swiftly turned in to a technologic mani!

My base colour is Revlon Minted and I topped a few nails with Cirque Magic Hour.

All the stamping is from Bundle Monster plate BM415 and I used OPI Suzi Says Feng Shui and BK Matte White for all the details.

To draw on the wi-fi signal, I used two straight vinyl stencils to mark off a triangle at the base of my nail, then drew 3 curved lines stretching edge-to-edge with a nail art brush. I tried to follow the curve of my cuticle to get them all matching! I quickly removed the vinyls and used a dotting tool to add one dot at the base.

It’s all topped off with a coat of Glisten & Glow HK Girl.

Short Circuit

I did these nails a little while ago when I was desperate to wear my favourite purple, China Glaze Cowgirl Up, and mattify it. To spice up the manicure a little, I added some stamping using A-England’s Excalibur Renaissance with Bundle Monster Plate BM415.

Bit of a tangent but I feel compelled to mention that circuit is one of those words that doesn’t look like it should be a word (although I know this often comes down to opinion). A freak-of-language combination of letters that just isn’t very pleasing to the eye. I wonder how it came to be that circuit would be pronounced ser-kit? The mind boggles. Well, my mind at least!

23 Shades of Birthday Purple

Today is my 23rd birthday! These aren’t actually the nails I’m wearing right now, they’re from a couple of days ago, but the ones I do have on are not as interesting. I’m wearing the classic old creme with glitter combo – Barry M Blue Grape with Models Own Valerian as an accent.

I had an unofficial birthday celebration last night with my family and this evening I’m heading straight out after work to grab some nibbles with my friends so I’d say it’s shaping up to be a pretty great week. I’m one of those (kind of annoying) people that likes to really milk their birthday for all it’s worth and I use ‘It’s my birthday week though’ as an excuse to get away with everything! Fess up… you know you do it too!

For the gradient, I used Barry M Heather as my base colour fading to Barry M Bright Purple to Sally Hansen Plum Luck. There’s a gradient tutorial here.

The stamped pattern is from Bundle Monster Plate BM419 and I used BK Matte White.

For the accent fingers, I used two coats of Models Own Amethyst. Can you tell I’m loving the Velvet Goth Collection.

It’s all finished off with Color Club Top Coat .

Valentine’s Day Holographic Gradient Nail Art

You may notice that things are looking a little different around here. Over the weekend, I finalised the redesign on my blog and I really love the new look! It’s been a long time coming so it’s such a great feeling to tick it off my to-do list. I wanted to clean up all the clutter and make things a bit airier so I’m really pleased with the outcome and my favourite part is the bigger pictures! I hope you guys like it too but if you have any suggestions for functionality or features that could make it better for you to visit, look around and read, then I’d really like to hear your thoughts.

Today’s nail art features a few from the new piCture pOlish collaboration collection – the Bijou Holos. These two shades are just so perfect for Valentine’s day so I thought I’d combine them for a sweet as sugar Valentine’s gradient.

I used piCture pOlish Pirouette for the base colour and then created a gradient using piCture pOlish Scarlett. There’s gradient tutorial here.

I had to remove the gradient from two of my nails after a failed stamping attempt so I painted them again with Scarlett and then stamped using Bundle Monster Plate BM421 and BK Matte White.

It’s all topped off with a coat of Glisten and Glow HK Girl.

Pink and Purple Gradient with a Sprinkling of Fairy Dust

Last week I was crazy excited about my incoming bottle of China Glaze Fairy Dust and now that I have it, I know it was completely justified! It’s everything I dreamed of! I’ve worn it a few times over a plain colour mani but I really think it looks best over nail art. I was so excited to try it over a gradient and I really don’t think I could have picked a better colour combo. The two shades I used are really awful polishes on their own – bad brushes and a watery formula – but those are always the ones that are perfect for gradients.

Pink and Purple Gradient Nail Art with a Sprinkling of Fairy Dust

I used Revlon Cloud as my base colour and created the gradient using W7 Baby Pink. Tutorial for that here!

I topped the gradient with one coat of China Glaze Fairy Dust and added some stamping from Bundle Monster Plate BM423 using BK Matt White.

The little unicorn is from She Sells Seashells but seems to be out of stock at the moment.

Finally it’s all topped off with a two coats of Glisten and Glow HK Girl with a few extra coats on the unicorn to seal it in.

Hunger Games: Catching Fire Inspired Nail Art

I’m a huge Hunger Games fan so of course, going to see Catching Fire was on the top of my to-do list last weekend! The second book is my favourite from the trilogy and the film very nearly lives up to the magic of the book.

Throughout the film I kept getting distracted by the outfits that the tributes wear in the arena. The honeycomb pattern, that was most noticeable on the shoulders, with the gradient effect in all those different shades of grey was just calling to me and I kept thinking that it looked identical to one of the designs in the new Bundle Monster set. Before I even left the cinema, I knew exactly how I’d be paying tribute to the movie! This isn’t the most exciting Hunger Games nail art that I’ve created but it’s one of my favourites.

I started with a base of Barry M White. I covered my cuticles with Liquid Palisade to protect them from any mess and created a gradient using Rimmel Grey Matter. There’s a gradient tutorial here.

I added the honeycomb pattern using Rimmel Grey Matter with Bundle Monster Plate BM422.

It’s all topped off with two coats of KBShimmer Clearly on Top.
