31 Day Challenge: Inspired by a Book

So far this year, I’ve been on a YA binge when it comes to books. I’ve read Divergent, The Maze Runner and The Selection trilogies plus almost every John Green Book! Right now I’m reading 50 Shades of Grey so that’s what inspired today’s nail art – I literally painted 50 shades of grey on to my nails.
It’s not the most exciting, I know, and I was going to create something else but I wore it all day today and the effect really grew on me. I created these nails in the same way I would do a streaky watercolour (mixing nail polish with acetone to make it runny) but I used a striping brush and only painted on the colour in one direction to create stripes.
I used pretty much every grey in my collection for this and just mixed them together in every combination! I can’t guarantee there are 50 different shades of grey here, but I think there’s a good chance there could be.

‘I’ve had enough trouble for a lifetime’ (Harry Potter Nail Art)

How could I not dedicate today’s nails to Harry Potter?! I’ve read all the books and seen all the films so I, like many, will be sad to see the end of the series. I’m not actually sure when I will be seeing the film. I could go on Sunday but I don’t like going to the cinema when it’s really really busy so I’m tempted to even wait until next week! I know that conviction won’t hold up for very long though!

Here’s some trivia for you. J.K. Rowling grew up in the area that I live in. I even went to the same high school she did!

Thumb to Pinky: Deathly Hallows, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff.
I used Bundle Monster plate BM20 for the stripes.

When I was checking the house colours (I know them of course, but I wanted to check I was 100% right because it would have been super embarrassing if I used the wrong colours) I found an interesting article about the significance of the colours which you can read here.

    Polishes used:
Deathly Hallows – Rimmel Black Satin, white acrylic paint
Houses: Base colour first, stamp colour second
Slytherin – BYS Fern, Collection 2000 Moonlight shine
Ravenclaw – Collection 2000 Unnamed Bronze, NYC Glossies 243B
Gryffindor – La Femme Cherry Red, Sally Hansen Chrome Amber
Hufflepuff – George@ Asda Buttercup Shine, W7 Black

May the Odds be Ever in Your Favour (The Hunger Games Nail Art)

I recently read The Hunger Games trilogy and I absolutely love it, I highly recommend it! Has anyone else read it?
Fear not if you’re not the reading type, the first movie is set to be released next March and I can’t wait!
Pinky to thumb: Katniss’ bow and arrow, ‘Girl on Fire’, Mockingjay Pin, District 12, ‘The Hunger Games’

    My Harry Potter Mani

I’ve been meaning to do a Harry Potter mani all week but was completely lost for ideas.
I sat down yesterday night and decided to just paint them E.L.F Smoky Brown then decided to do the Deathly Hallows on my thumb – then came the rest. It was largely inspired by Melissa @ The Daily Nail‘s HP manicure.
And I did the house colours on my right hand. This is the first time I’ve photographed my right hand and it was really tricky to position my hand and angle the camera properly.

    Left to right:
    Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin
I used a lot of polishes for this one and don’t have them in front of me to list right now so if anyone wants to know what any of them are, just let me know.
