Day 24: Inspired by a Book

Can you believe there are only seven days left of this challenge?! I really can’t!
So, for nails inspired by a book I decided to go for a children’s book – The Rainbow Fish. I did consider a few adult books that I’ve read recently but this seemed way more fun!

I can’t wait to see Rie and Cris‘s book inspired nails today!

Civil Twilight – Letters From The Sky

I have a short attention span. I always have and probably always will. It doesn’t affect me all the time, just when I have to do something really boring! I can get totally engrossed in something I enjoy and waste away hours on end without even realising but as soon as I have to concentrate on something I’m not interested in for more than twenty minutes, everything else becomes infinitely exciting. Even cleaning starts to look like a more appealing option that what I’m doing.

It’s not a good trait to have when it comes to studying.

I have a lot of exams coming up and I kept giving up on my revision to paint my nails so I decided I needed a mani that I wouldn’t want to take off.

I know glitter is a massive pain to remove so I decided to apply a very thick, glitter manicure that I wouldn’t be tempted to remove any time soon due to all the effort that would entail.

I decided on Models Own Juicy Jules because I absolutely love this holographic glitter polish but I’ve never worn it on its own before.

There are loads of pictures because I just couldn’t narrow it down. This polish is so pretty.

I applied 2 coats of Gosh Holographic first because I didn’t trust the glitter to cover the whole nail without leaving little gaps.

I probably used 4 or 5 coats of the Juicy Jules to make it super removal proof and then a few coats of NYC Top Coat to smooth things over.

In Sunlight

And slightly blurry so you can see the rainbow.

In Artificial Light

The colours sparkle more under artificial light. I spent a lot of time admiring the glitter when I was in my exam because there were fluorescent lights which made it super gorgeous and distracting!

And blurry for the holo-ness…

Don’t worry, I haven’t invented a new gruffalo-esque monster. It’s just a Ruffian Manicure with a Holo as a base 😀

I used nail guides for this one to get a crisp line.

Here are some better pictures of the GOSH Holographic polish I got on the weekend. Monday’s post didn’t really show it in all its Holographic Glory.

This time, I applied it without using a base coat, which I read to do somewhere, and it was a much easier application.

Sorry, but I couldn’t get a good video on my crappy old digicam and my SLR doesn’t take them.

Sorry about the late post. I’ve had trouble with my internet connection all day but I finally got it working. Turned out to be as simple as turning the router off and on.. DUH!

This is my new GOSH Holographic. Now I know what you’re thinking… Sammy, whatever happened to your budget?

I’ve been lemming this for a while and yesterday, my darling Mummy was nice enough to buy it for me when she saw it on my nail after I tested it in Superdrug. She is very attracted to shiny stuff and bought one for herself too.

It chips easiliy and application is a bit frustrating but once you get the hang of it it’s fine. You just have to make sure the first coat is dry before the next one else you will just smudge off the coat underneath. It says ‘Special Formula’ on the side and you should buy a special base coat for it. This is probably why.

The picture doesn’t show how eye catching this is. I will get another one up soon and maybe a video to show you the full holo-ness.

However, I did spend more money on some Collection 2000 polishes that were on sale in Boots. There was a big tub of them reduced to £1 so it was really hard to resist such a bargain

For them to be reduced I assume they are end of line. But I saw the two ‘Maxiflex’ shades after in Superdrug and they were in different packaging – well, the same but with black lids so I guess that’s the reason for the reduction. The one on the left, ‘Moonlight Shine’ is great for stamping too!
