Art Deco Inspo: New Year’s Nail Art

It’s nearly time to wave goodbye to 2016 and I know a lot of us will be happy to see it go. On the whole, it really does seem like 2016 was a pretty terrible year but perhaps that’s because I live in the same pop culture as everyone else on Twitter and I just got sucked into it all. Whatever your thoughts on the last 12 months, I hope everyone is rounding off the year with fun festivities and killer nails!

You can’t go wrong with a bit of art deco for New Years, can you? I grabbed this plate from MoYou many moons ago for its drool-worthy geometric patterns and this week I had a shot at creating my own decals from a stamp – i.e. colouring in the design on a ‘stamping mat’ before transferring it to my nails.

You can see the technique in this video by MoYou from about 1.20. However now that I watch the video, I can see why I’ve had such a hard time of it – I was doing it back to front! I’ve been stamping on to the mat, colouring in the design, then topcoating over the top. When I probably should have been laying down the clear top coat on the mat first. Such a rookie move. I definitely need a bit more practice but I’m quite happy with how these turned out.

For the Nail Art

1. My base colour is Morgan Taylor Lace ‘Em Up
2. The stamping outlines were created with Sally Hansen Game of Chromes and MoYou Stamping Plate Steampunk 06
3. I coloured in some of the gaps with Barry M Enchanted and Nutcracker
4. Then finally, created a glitter gradient by sponging some Kiko Colour Glitter in Gold on to the tips
