A few months ago, I found out that I was one of five Finalists in the Best UK Nail Blogger category at the Scratch Stars Awards which are ‘the only awards solely dedicated to recognising technicians and businesses in the UK nail industry.’ I’ve been nominated here and there for a few awards as a ‘beauty blogger’ but at its heart, The Nailasaurus is a blog all about nails. So to be recognised by one of the industry’s leading publications was a huge honour. The awards are in their fifth year now and ‘Best UK Nail Blogger’ was one of two brand new categories making its debut in 2016. So yeah… pretty dang exciting.
The other finalists in the category were One Nail to Rule Them All, Lucy’s Stash, Natasha Lee and Nail Lacquer UK so I knew it was going to be a close competition. Alice and Lucie (of One Nail to Rule Them All and Lucy’s Stash respectively) are long time blogging buddies of mine so we rocked up to Café de Paris together, joined by the lovely Lex and bumped in to Natasha outside. I didn’t get to meet Ave (Nail Lacquer UK) until later in the night but let me tell you, that girl is an absolute charm!
Our category was announced towards the end and although I wasn’t nervous at all in all the time leading up to it, the nerves kicked in right then! Handsome chappy George Lamb was presenting the ceremony and I was very impressed when he managed to pronounce ‘The Nailasaurus’ perfectly first time without hesitation. When Sharonjit from Salon Services announced my name as the winner, I went totally weak at the knees but somehow managed a wobbly walk up to the stage to say a quick thanks.
Unfortunately, the people who I really need to thank weren’t there on the night and that’s OBVIOUSLY YOU GUYS! To everyone that’s ever shared a link, told a friend, stopped to leave a comment or even just dropped by to see my gradient tutorial. Without you all, this blog never would have grown in to what it is today and I wouldn’t be able to proudly declare that I’m officially the Best Nail Blogger in the UK… for a year or so at least!
