When I posted a posted a shot of my Hello Kitty mani on Instagram last week, you guys got pretty excited. Seems Kitty White has a lot of fans out there!
So in case you didn’t know, OPI have teamed up with Hello Kitty for a range of nail polishes which was obviously met with a hot dose of buzz and anticipation. There are a total of 12 polishes in this collection, but 6 are salon exclusive shades. The 6 that I have are the ones that will be hitting shelves in stores: 5 Apples Tall, Let’s Be Friends, Look at my Bow!, Spoken From The Heart, Super Cute in Pink and Charmmy & Sugar. They’re all in the purple / pink / red range – so all quite, what I would call, girly shades.
It’s not out in the UK for a while yet (I don’t have info for US, sorry!) but I wanted to get a jump on it in case you want to save some of your Christmas pennies to pick it up when it’s released in the new year. The collection will be available January 6th 2016 in selected department stores and salons nationwide.
Let’s start off with a few nail art looks I’ve done with the collection. The first was a gradient topped with some chrome stamping. I used Super Cute in Pink, Spoken From The Heart and 5 Apples Tall for the gradient, then stamped over it with Essie Nothing Else Metals and Bundle Monster Shangri-La plate BM-S105.
For the second look, my base colours are Let’s Be Friends, Look at my Bow! and Super Cute in Pink.
For the nail art, I used black and white acrylic paint, with 5 Apples Tall for the bow detail. I ended up kicking myself when I realised that I missed out a vital feature of Kitty’s face… her whiskers. It took a few tries for me to get her ears right so when I finally nailed it, I was so excited that I totally forgot about the whiskers!
5 Apples Tall is a rich red apple shade with the slightest hint of coral. This will be a great shade to rock in the summer.
Let’s Be Friends is a baby pink that borders on white. A really great pastel shade that is opaque in 2 coats but I did use a third just to even out a few streaks.
Look at my Bow! is your standard pastel pink. Pretty and girly with a lovely creamy formula.
Spoken From The Heart was a tricky one to photograph and I’m still not confident that I’ve quite captured it. It’s definitely a pink, but a hot pink that borders on coral. You follow?!
Despite the name, I would class Super Cute in Pink as a purple shade. It really teeters on the edge and will be an opinion divider, but I personally see it as a purple. It’s my favourite from the collection and has a super shiny crelly formula that’s opaque in two coats.
The only glitter in this collection is Charmmy & Sugar. It’s clear base with a frosty silver/white/pink micro shimmer. Packed in there are tiny silver, pink and a few green hexes. In the full nail swatch above, that’s 2 coats with a top coat. Underneath, I’ve swatched one coat over all of the other shades. As you can see, the colour peeks through but is a fairly dense topper. It’s a bit sickly sweet for my tastes but pretty if you like your glitters packed and frosty!
