Doooo You Have The Time?

I used this colour combo in my Union Jack frenzy on Sunday and although it was one of the duller combinations, it was actually my favourite nail. I've always loved Blue and brown together although it has to be the right brown and blue. This tealy, aquaish blue works well but I can't imagine it would look so good with a navy.

The criss cross pattern is a variation on a WAH Nails design - Basket Case. The WAH design uses three lines in each stripe but I've only used two because I've only got nubbins at the moment! The glitter was a last minute addition and I'm so glad I put it in there!

There are a few quick announcements I want to make! I finally have an FAQs page now that I will be adding to as time goes by. It's something I've been meaning to do for a while now so it's like a huge weight off my shoulders!
It's been over two weeks since I asked if anyone wanted to pin for me and the response was great. I've been a very bad blogger and I've still not finished that little project. Turns out it's way harder to organise than I thought it would be! I will finish that all up very soon so I'm very sorry if you're still waiting to hear.

Union Jack Nail Art Tutorial

You've seen the Union Jack a.k.a. the flag of the United Kingdom here many times before. It comes in handy on patriotic occasions such as the Queen's Jubilee and now the Olympics are finally here. I've been thinking about doing a tutorial for while and I figured now would be the perfect time!

It's actually way easier to do than it looks because it's completely made up of straight lines. I'm sure there are lots of other ways to do this but this is the way I've always done it! Enjoy!

Union Jack British Flag Nail Art Tutorial

Red, White and Blue.. and also Purple, Pink, Green and Orange!

It seems I have come down with a case of Olympic Fever to go with my busted ankle this weekend! I think a lot of Brits, including myself, were growing sick of hearing about the games during the run up, by which I mean the past 8 months or so. I just felt kinda like I was being force fed all this marketing mumbo jumbo left right and centre. But as I said yesterday, now that it's here I love it! Although equally, I will be happy for the country to resume normal service when the excitement is passed.

I've made a Union Jack Nail Art Tutorial (which will be up a little later today) and as soon as I'd finished that one nail I wanted to do more and more so I picked up some crazy colours and just committed!

I used Barry M White as a base on every nail. The extra colours, from thumb to pinky, are:

Olympics Nails!

Most of you will have probably seen the opening ceremony by this time and some of you may even be watching live coverage of the 2012 Olympics right now!

I was watching the coverage of the opening ceremony live last night and I felt so patriotic. I'm sure you'll all agree that it was a fantastical sight to behold, I really wish I could have there! I was tweeting throughout and anyone reading could tell that I was getting a bit too excited! James Bond, Mr Bean and even Her Majesty The Queen made some hilarious appearances.

As for the games themselves, I normally only ever watch the Gymnastics - I've been watching the men's qualifiers most of the morning and was happy to see Team GB take an early lead there. I might tune in for some field events this year too though and see if anything else can peak my interest.

Loads more pictures under the cut!

My obsession with glequins is still going strong! But as you know by now, I have to return to stamping every now and then because that's where this whole nail art/blog thing started. So I just picked a stamp - one of my all time favourites from the 2011 BM set - and figured out after where I could put the glequins on!

Raise Your Nails For Luca!

The subject of this post is kind of a serious topic considering the kind of stuff I usually write about. Today I want to take some time to tell you about an inspirational little boy of just 3 years old - Luca - who survived against all odds after he was diagnosed with Meningococcal Septicaemia in January this year. He didn't come away unscathed however, and the devastating effect the disease had on his body meant he ended up losing both of his legs. A charity was founded to help raise the funds so that Luca will be able to get the best prosthetics available and every chance at a great life.

I've been following his story on Facebook for a while now and every little snippet brings a smile to my face. Luca's got quite the online following and I'm not surprised. The campaign calls for everyone to 'Raise Your Hands For Luca'. All you need is a pen and a palm to show your support, but you can read more about that on the Facebook Page. Of course, instead of writing it on my palm, I had to scribble it on my nails and raise them instead!

I thought I would just take some time to show my support to Luca the best way I know how and try to share the cause with you guys. Please go and Like or Follow 'For Luca'. I do both and I promise you'll love seeing his updates!

This base colour is No7 Lucky Lilac and I freehanded on the lettering with a small striping brush. The font is Action Jackson.
I used the 2012 Bundle Monster set with W7 Black to add some fancy details on the 'spare' nails.
Finally, I added a topcoat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

Nautical Nail Tips

I've run out of ideas this week so I was gonna do a swatch post today. Then I realised I have absolutely nothing interesting to swatch so I wanted some simple nail art. Whenever I tell myself I'm going to do something 'simple', it nearly always takes longer than, say, a full stamping manicure because I get caught up in the 'simple' details! I suck at drawing tips but I always think this time I'll nail it, even though I never do!
So basically, I'm trying to say that when short on time, I should not attempt tips. Even if it seems like a simple option.

The base colour is Cult Nails Cruisin Nude. I used Barry M White and then Miss Sporty 320 with a striping brush for the tip detail. I finished it off with two coats of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

Peach Melba

Here's another summery pairing for you today! There are only two pastel polishes I've ever truly loved - NYC Lexington Yellow and this one, BYS Pretty as a Peach. It's a colour combo I've used before but one that looks wicked!

Pastel Paradise

A comment on yesterday's manicure prompted me to create something a bit more summery today. I always have to consciously make the decision to wear summery colours as opposed to the dark shades I normally favour. I have plenty of brights and pastels in my stash but I normally reach for the dark ones first!

My base colour is Cult Nails Manipulative and I used No7 Stand Back with a striping brush to draw chevrons on the tips.
The gold accents are Barry M Gold Foil, again with a striping brush, and I initially just drew thin, straight lines but decided to add a few curves which definitely turned out for the best.

Best of the Bundle

The Houndstooth design is by far my favourite from the most recent set of Bundle Monster plates. There aren't a lot of patterns in the 2012 Bundle that really stand out to me but this is one of them. And it stands at the front! I love those stamping patterns that are so seamless, you can't tell which colour is the base and which was stamped on. I was going to leave it open for interpretation but I've totally given myself away with the black accent finger!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

I found out today that I made it on to the shortlist for the Cosmopolitan Blog Awards 2012! It really is all thanks to you guys. Thank you to everyone that put in a nomination for me, I love you all so much! I'm even getting a little teary eyed writing this *le cry*!

If you would like to vote for me, you can do so on the Cosmo website and I'm in the Established Beauty Blog category. I'm not getting my hopes up for the win but I'm really overjoyed just to be on the list! I say this all the time (and I still find it hard to fully articulate my feelings on the subject) but when I started this blog I never imagined it would evolve in to the one you're reading today but I'm so glad that it has. To be receiving such recognition for doing something that I love is just overwhelming. Once again, thank you!

Today's nail art is something I've had in mind for a long time, well the basic premise anyway. I knew I wanted to do naked half-moons but I didn't know how I would dress them up. As hard as I try, I can't shake this glequin obsession so I'm just going to keep rolling with it!

I did not use a 'base colour'. I just used my base coat (Cult Nails Get It On) and waited for that to dry before using some hole reinforcers to mark of the half moons at the base of my nails. I painted a coat of W7 Black on each nail and quickly removed the hole reinforcers. I used a striping brush with W7 Black to neaten up any mistakes and let it all dry.
To attach the glequins, I painted on a coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast and used a sticky toothpick to place them while that was still tacky.
Finally, I added another coat of wicked fast and that was that!

Social Media Nails! Also, who wants to Pin for me?

I mentioned last week that I had started a new job but I didn't give too much away because, ya know, it's private and all that. All I will tell you is that it has something to do with social media so these are the nails that I wore to the interview in an attempt to stand out a bit from the the other applicants. I drew the company logo on my other hand but that was too ugly to photograph! As it turned out I got way too shy and didn't just want to say 'Hey boss man look at my nails', even though we discussed this blog and the fact that I do nail art which would have been a perfect segue for me to show him.

I tweeted the nails to him a fews days later anyway and ended up getting the job. Whoopee! It may or may not have been because of the kick-ass nails - who knows?!

I've painted social media nails before and the only differences this time are my much shorter nails and Pinterest in the place of Blogger. This leads me to a very exciting little announcement...
I'm looking for some guest pinners for my 'Nails' board on Pinterest!

Honeycomb Madness

They look like honeycomb and I must be mad to spend so much time placing glitter juuust so on my nails so that all the edges and corners match up! It didn't actually take as long as you might think though. I need to make a tutorial for these glequins as I'm sure a lot of people are scared of using them because they look so fiddly. If you have the right tools (and by tools I mean toothpicks) and some time to concentrate, they're actually quite fun to play with!
I keep reaching for Cult Nails polishes recently simply because they're all stacked next to me on my desk so it requires minimal effort to get hold of a bottle! I really need to get a little rotation system going so that I don't just use the same polishes week after week and you get to see a bit of variation!

More pictures and details after the jump!

Blink 182 Nail Art! What's My Age Again?

I went to see one of my favourite bands EVER in Cardiff last night! BLINK 182! Needless to say, they were amazing and definitely worth the two year wait! Travis Barker's drum solos were just epic and he didn't miss a beat or even break a sweat.

On stage, Tom said something about it being 30 years this year since they started 'playing songs about growing up' and it just reminded me that I'm an adult now and I'm not really growing up any more. Well I'm 21 so maybe I still have a few years of reckless abandon left! But every time I listen to their music, I'm reminded of being a teenager and going through those things they sing about and I just love them for being the soundtrack to my youth.

The nail art is based on some of their album covers - Neighborhoods, Enema of the State, Greatest Hits, Self-Titled/Untitled and Take Off Your Pants and Jacket.

It would be really amazing if they saw these nails so if you have the time and inclination, I would love if you could tweet a link to @markhoppus or @travisbarker or @tomdelonge or heck, even all three of them!
To make it easy for you, here's a short link I prepared earlier! http://bit.ly/M3ndLZ

Voting is Open!

It's open! Click here to go to the voting page.
I want to apologise for all the confusion with this contest. I'm so so sorry. There's been a delay and some mix ups due to technical problems beyond my control but (pretty fingers crossed) it should be smooth sailing from here on out.

Voting will be open from now until August 5th at 11:59 EST
(you can keep an eye on EST Time here)

The response to this contest was amazing! I never thought so many of you would enter!
There are close to 200 entries so we are going to drain the pool a little on Sunday 22nd and Sunday 29th. On these dates, the bottom 10% of entries will be removed from the voting.
It may seem a bit harsh but will ultimately make for a better voting experience for everyone.

The voting process is a head to head click through. You will see two random entries and be asked to click to vote for your favourite. Each click counts as one vote.

This will be the first time I'm seeing all the entries so I'm just as excited as you are! Good luck everyone!

Let Me Upgrade You

I added some black block detail to the gradient from my last post. I just took a striper brush and my trusty W7 Black to it and here's the result. I looove it!

I'm sure a lot of you are wondering what's going on with the Load N Vote contest. Voting should be live by now but it seems there's another hiccup with their site and/or server. I am so sorry but I guess that's the risk I took running a competition with a start up site. I know some of you saw the post that got published earlier today when voting was supposed to open, that will go up again once everything is fixed. Once again guys, I'm sorry, but it really is beyond my control.
