Here it is. The very last. The final day of my 31 Day Challenge 2012! It's been a long and bumpy ride, we even lost a woman 5 weeks in but just like last year, I'm so glad we did it! I don't really have much else to say on the subject so I'll just leave you with my recreation of Rie's Day 8 Metallic Nails.
I've never ever done a splatter mani before and I probably won't be doing one again any time soon. The clean up on this took just as long, if not longer, than the mani itself! I think part of the problem was the metallic polishes. Whenever I touched acetone to the mess, it would send a million bits of shimmer swimming in to my cuticles and I just couldn't get it all off! Saying that, I did grow to love the result and maybe a bit of practice will do me good.

I used A-England Lancelot as my base colour, then used Essie Penny Talk, Barry M Gold Foil and Barry M Silver Foil for the splatters. I topped it with one coat of Seche Vite to make it dry quickly and then one coat of Rimmel Mattifying Top Coat.

Looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteomg this color combo is goregous. please dooo splatter again, it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI too hate the cleanup/removal of metallic polishes! I always seem to end up with little specks of glitter on my cuticles, sometimes for days!
ReplyDeleteWorth it though!
I loved Rie's original design and I love yours as well. The clean-up is one of the things that has kept me from trying the splatter technique. I love the look of splatter nails though so maybe I will just have to suck it up and give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI love this mani! I've always wanted to try a splatter mani, but for some reasno have never gotten around to it.
ReplyDeleteJust a pointer too, you put Silver Foil twice, instead of Gold!

ReplyDeletei love this combo of gold, black and matte :)
Looks awesome! I've got to recreate this sometime, too! :) As for the cleanup, I find sticking scotch tape onto the skin around your nails quite handy (I do that when I do watermarbling)
ReplyDeleteYour nails look amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'm in love!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! So hip and urban!
ReplyDeletewow it's really pretty!

Love this splatter look, it's so artsy!
ReplyDeleteIt's really great, especially matte! I remember reading a tip on a blog about using liquid latex instead of tape. I bet you could paint it right up & over your cuticles! Gets me thinking...haha! Merry Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks absolutely incredible!
ReplyDeleteIt's actually the first time I like a splatter mani
ReplyDeleteI hated the Splatter Nails clean-up too, until I found the perfect technique to do these. I always do them on a plastic bag first and then I stick them onto wet polish like nail stickers. It's soo much easier, faster and less annoying! I did quite a few with this technique and I like them especially with metallics! Yours is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThis was beautiful! :)
ReplyDeletewow this is so gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteOoo, I like the combination of splatter, metallic, and matte!
ReplyDeleteOh I just love this mani, I don't think I'll do a splatter mani... ever. Because I'm just so clumsy that can not go right without some serious nailpolish disasters. But it looks stunning.
ReplyDeleteOMG ! I love it !!Need to try this !
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this nail look!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing!
ReplyDeleteholy moly! that's one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. I 'm definitely going to have to try recreating that. It's beautiful! happy holidays!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine the terrible clean up but it looks AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I must try this color combo/matte (just not with a splatter, they are too messy for my OCD personality)! When I found it in my email, my jaw dropped. So gorgeous!
ReplyDeletei absolutely LOVE this...so amazing!
ReplyDeleteWoow I love the metallic splatter and the matte finish!! I need to do this!
ReplyDeleteThis almost looks like a Saran Wrap mani. Love it!! This is the perfect mani for mattifying!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful!! Maybe one of my favourites ever :D I've always wanted to try the splatter thing, but been wary of the cleanup. That makes me want to try it though--it looks so great matte :D
ReplyDeleteOh wow... I need to get some copper nail polish! This is stunning.
ReplyDeleteI've never liked the idea of matte nail polish, but you really wear it well.
