Simple Ruffian

This one's a bit messy. I'm terrible at doing tips or ruffian in any capacity let alone attempting to get the tiny little stripes matte so it went all lumpy and bumpy but I quite like it, I'm going to attempt at again in the future. After all, practice makes perfect.

The base colour is Barry M Cyan Blue with one coat of BYS Tinkerbell to get the shimmer, then a top coat of NYC.
The dark blue is No7 Betty Blues and I used E.L.F Matte finisher to matte out the ruffian strips.

  1. I really like this look. The Two colors work so well together. How do you do your ruffians? Do you freehand them?

  2. Cristina - Thanks. Yep, I use a little paintbrush. I think I need an even smaller one though! x

  5. I've never done of these before. I should try it one day. It doesn't appeal to me but I may change my mind. You picked great colors for it though. Nicely done!

  6. Nicely done! I read your description before I looked closely at your pictures, and I have to ask: did you draw the crescents on because the lighter blue wasn't opaque enough? I would have painted the dark blue first and then painted over with the lighter blue to get the ruffian effect... I've tried that once and it didn't seem too difficult.

  9. I've seen people use paper hole secures to make the guide for the ruffian crescent-- you know these little white dot stickers that you put on the holes of your loose leaf paper to reinforce them if they tear?

By the way, excellent blog-- I always look here for inspiration :)

  13. Thanks for all the lovely comments guys!!

Frances - Yes, I drew on the dark blue afterwards. It would have been easier to paint on the lighter blue but as you suggested, it's not opaque enough. If the colours were the other way round, I would have definitely done it that way :D

Beata - I don't have that plate, perhaps I could try it with some other tip designs :)

Beej - I've actually got some of those somewhere, I'll have to dig them out! Thanks, I'm really glad you like my blog!

    xx
