A few more pictures of GOSH Holographic (Swatches)

Here are some better pictures of the GOSH Holographic polish I got on the weekend. Monday's post didn't really show it in all its Holographic Glory.

This time, I applied it without using a base coat, which I read to do somewhere, and it was a much easier application.

Sorry, but I couldn't get a good video on my crappy old digicam and my SLR doesn't take them.

♪♫ Red and Orange, Yellow, GOSH and Blue

Sorry about the late post. I've had trouble with my internet connection all day but I finally got it working. Turned out to be as simple as turning the router off and on.. DUH!
This is my new GOSH Holographic. Now I know what you're thinking... Sammy, whatever happened to your budget?

I've been lemming this for a while and yesterday, my darling Mummy was nice enough to buy it for me when she saw it on my nail after I tested it in Superdrug. She is very attracted to shiny stuff and bought one for herself too.

It chips easiliy and application is a bit frustrating but once you get the hang of it it's fine. You just have to make sure the first coat is dry before the next one else you will just smudge off the coat underneath. It says 'Special Formula' on the side and you should buy a special base coat for it. This is probably why.

The picture doesn't show how eye catching this is. I will get another one up soon and maybe a video to show you the full holo-ness.

However, I did spend more money on some Collection 2000 polishes that were on sale in Boots. There was a big tub of them reduced to £1 so it was really hard to resist such a bargain

For them to be reduced I assume they are end of line. But I saw the two 'Maxiflex' shades after in Superdrug and they were in different packaging - well, the same but with black lids so I guess that's the reason for the reduction. The one on the left, 'Moonlight Shine' is great for stamping too!

I Lost my Sally's Virginity!

I went to Sally's for the first time today and it was very exciting. They had OPI's for £9.99 and China Glaze's for £5.99 which is very expensive for a 15ml bottle of polish but I don't know if they retail at a similar price in the States.
I was on the lookout for some ASP Nail Whitening Paste which was recommended to me by Beata but it was £5.99 (which I knew before I went but I just wanted to go and see it!) so I ended up leaving without it but I did buy a monster (500ml) bottle of acetone which works out at half the price of buying a 50ml bottle each time in a pharmacy.

I'm trying to grow my nails a teeny bit longer and get them all at the same length but even as I type this, the nail on my ring finger is winding me up! I keep hitting all the wrong keys, especially caps lock instead of the A. I don't know how all you ladies do anything with such long nails!

What's in my drawer?

I follow a few beauty blogs and have seen lots of posts detailing what these bloggers stash in their make-up bags and use everyday. So I bring you... 'What's in my utility drawer?'

I store all my nail related stuff in a small set of plastic drawers and the bottom one is where I keep all the tools of my craft :D

What you see here...
At the back: The small cosmetics bag which holds all of my stamping stuff and some other small bits and bobs.

Front left: Base coats and top coats.
A lot of these go unused because they don't their job properly.

Midlle: The polishes that are too tall to stand up in the drawers! If you look carefully you can see a small pot of diamantes.

Front right: Nail file and buffer. Under the Hidden Tresure is the Scholl Nail Brightening treatment.

If you are interested, please read more. I just don't want to clog up the front page too much.

Can you help me?

I am in need of a new name for my new blog. It was my plan for it to be a beauty blog but I think I'm going to turn it into a more general blog where I can post anything I fancy.

It's currently called 'The Beautysaurus' (click the text below to go to it) but I think I should use something a bit more general. My name is Sammy and you could incorporate that into the name, but it's not a must - I'm just after anything original and catchy.

All suggestions are very much appreciated and I will be so happy if I actually get any! If I do use the name you suggest, I will say thank you with a prize. I haven't got anything in mind yet, but it will probably just be something small and nail related to show my appreciation.

If you want to get to know a bit more about me, be sure to follow my other blog as I am launching it with a 30 Day challenge, where I have a new subject every day. You can see a list of the subjects here.

My new blog...

I have just started a new blog called The Beautysaurus.
I started this blog to post Daily Konadicures but recently I've been diverging from that purpose more and more with mentions of cooking, bands and all sorts of other stuff, so I think I will put all of those kind of posts in another blog. I don't know how often I will be posting on there. Probably not every day as I do with this one, but I'll see how it goes.
There are no real posts yet, but if you have enjoyed any of my non nail-related posts/ramblings, please feel free to check it out.

Credit goes to Carli @ Konad-licious for this amazing design which I bareface stole! I hope she doesn't mind. She wears it better than me anyway ;)

Bebé Blue

This is one of my most popular mani's of late. I got complimented by two ladies at the bank who initially thought they were false nails and were very curious about how I did it, and the lady who runs the Hula Hooping Class I went to.
I like this pattern because it's hard to tell which colour has been stamped and which is the base (except on the middle finger where you can see the edges of the stamp!)

Don't you find it hard to explain Konadding to someone who has never seen it before?! I'm always saying something along the lines of... 'Uuuh, it's a metal disc with embossed patterns and a scraper and rubber stamp and you just transfer it over!' or something else equally incomprehensible and long winded. People just look at me blankly and pretend they get it!

Denture Cleanser you say? Sure, why not?

Just a little update on my nail whitening activities...

Olivia over at Olivia Writes... suggested I use denture cleaning tablets. They were £1 for a tube of 30 in Tesco. Here is the before shot, which I remembered to take this time.

All you have to do is put one tablet in a bit of warm water and let it fizz. They are obviously intended to soak Dentures in and it says leave them for 3 minutes. I stuck my hands in for 5 minutes each and gave each nails a little scrub with a toothbrush afterwards. Here are the results.

I don't think there is as much change as when I used the Lemon Juice but that's probably because it was the first time I had tried anything so there was a bigger improvement to be had.

A word of advice if you are going to try this though - don't be tempted to add any lemon juice to the mixture! I thought 'Why not?' and just chucked some in but something happened and it fizzed over!

The first, and I'm guessing main, ingredient is Sodium Bicarbonate so obviously that reacted with the acidic lemon juice to create a DIY volcano. Good job I had a towel handy!

My polish budget for the year ahead...

I have decided to set myself a Polish budget from now on. I'm not allowed to spend more than £5 each month on nail polish and I'm going to try to stick to this for at least a year.
Buying polish is my vice these days - whatever shop I go into, even the supermarket, I'm always on the prowl for polish and it's breaking the bank! Not to mention taking up a lot of space.

Being a jobless student, I just can't afford to go on the way I am, so I have to stick to this goal. It's not unobtainable because I'm tight with my money as it is and never really spend more than £2.50 for a polish, so I could realistically buy about two new shades a month.

I have been keeping a record (as of last week) and have so far spent £11.50!! So not the best start, but I'm easing myself into it!
When I think about it, £10 in two weeks adds up to £260 a year!!! :o That's a shock to the system. That's a month's rent for me, with some quids left over for the weekends! So... I'm going to write down every polish purchase from now on and hope I have the willpower to cut down my purchasing.

I'm going to LANDAAN

I'm going to London with my brother tomorrow and I'm sooo excited.
We both have friends in a band called Crash and Berney who are playing in the Live and Unsigned Grand Final in the O2 Arena in front of thousands of people. They've worked so hard to get through the auditions and regional finals among thousands of entries and if they win, they will be offered a record deal. They are currently in second position in their category. How amazing is that?!

Please go to their Myspace to listen to their amazing songs or Facebook for all the news and updates.
They've already been featured on Mercedes Benz Mixed Tape and are destined for big things. So watch the video below to see them performing Fresh Prince of Bel Air and their original song Doo Doo Doo at the regional finals of the competition. It's amazing, and I'm not just saying that because I know them!

If you like them and want to see more of them in the future, it would be great if you vote for them. Voting closes 10pm (GMT+1) on Saturday 10th (tomorrow).

Just text unsigned16 to 84222.
(It will cost £1) Go to the voting page if you want to check out the competition.

E.L.F Haul

I ordered some E.L.F polishes last week and they arrived yesterday. Left to right:
Punk Purple
Mod Mauve
Smoky Brown

I just wanted to let every know that you shouldn't go by the colour you  see on the website when ordering their products. I was a bit disappointed to recieve products SO different in colour than what I saw on the website. They only cost £1.50 each so I'm not too bothered but I would be annoyed if I'd paid much more or I ended up with colours too similar to some that I already owned.

I've tried to get some pictures comparing the colour in the bottle to the one I saw on the web. I know the colour one sees can vary depending on each individual's monitor but I wasn't expecting such a difference.

You can click the picture for a larger version.
Click here to go to the product page.

My Verdict
Punk Purple is not purple at all, but closer to hot pink.

The biggest variation was in Mod Mauve. On the website it looked to me like a greyish, beige, purple but the actual product is more like a browny pink. I was looking forward to this colour the most, but in person it is my least favourite. If you want something that looks like the colour you see on the website, go for the Lilac.

I was expecting Smoky Brown to be exactly that - smoky. It's darker than it looks on the website but it's harder to see the difference in this picture than with the others. It is a little grey but I think the name Chocolate Ice Cream is a better description of the colour. If you want a light, creamy brown, go for Desert Haze.

Don't get me wrong, I like E.L.F. It's great value for money, they have a lot of fun products and the eyelashes are amazing! It's just impossible to know exactly what you are going to get when deciding shades online. If you are thinking of ordering anything, check their Facebook first (make sure you 'like' the page) to see if there are any current promotion codes - there nearly always is. I got free P+P and 3 free lip glosses with my order. Result!

A bit of babbling - I will forgive you if you don't read this

I will get to the interesting bit before I start babbling so... here are the polishes I bought on Wednesday:

Left to right:
Barry M - Fuschia
George @ Asda - Twister, matte finish
Barry M - Raspberry
Barry M Polishes and Lip Glosses areon offer at 2 for £5 in Boots at the moment.

And here is my current collection of chromes. They are really good for stamping, so I love them loads.
They go in order of acquisition from left to right.

There is a little story behind these.

My Mum gave me my first one (Garnet Chrome) for stamping when it got too thick for her to use. Since that started to run out I have been desperately seeking any I can get my hands on. She bought them as discontinued stock so I knew the search wouldn't be easy.

I bought the second one (Lilac Crystal) from Martian Delights. I was a bit dissapointed because it's pigmented enough for stamping but too runny.

A few days ago, my Mum gave me 'Amber' which is, again, amazing. The day before that, I bought 'Anemone' on eBay for £2.29 and it arrived today.

So if you like stamping and you ever see one of these - nab it!

Now I will babble...

I have a lot of time on my hands at the present. That's the reason for all of these loooong posts - sorry.
I have no job (not out of choice) and no school so I spend my days doing nothing much in particular - but here are some of my favourite bum activities...
  • Playing Playstation (Harry Potter Lego and COD)
  • Shopping (with money I don't have)
  • Watching/catching up on old TV series' (Mad Men, Arresteed Development) because I have used up all the current ones (Grey's, Desperate Housewives, The Mentalist)
  • Cooking/Baking
  • Trips to the Cinema (I can't wait for Inception!)
And of course blogging - but I did that before, when I was productive too, so it doesn't count.
By the by - I got the Results for my first year at University yesterday. Well, not a breakdown, but a pass/fail mark. I got a fail which I knew I would because I failed my 'Priciples Of Business Managent' exam in January. I had to call my tutor to see which modules I hadn't passed and would have to resit and she said it was just that Business exam so I didn't fail any of my summer exams!! I was chuffed to say the least!

De-Yellowing Attempt

After seeing Marina @ Forever The Ugly Duckling's post in which she showed us the improvement on the colour of her nails with the use of Lemon Juice and Scholl's Nail Brightening Treatment, I decided to give it a go myself.
I opted to try the lemon juice first, for my purse's sake, and I'm super surprised at the results already - after only one go!

So, on Monday (5th) I bought a bottle of 'Lemon Juice from Concentrate' from Tesco for 50p and a pack of value toothbrushes at two for 10p.
I put a bit of juice in a mug then brushed it on to my nails and left it for a minute. Then started scrubbing.

Now, I was really stoopid and didn't take a picture before I started but my nails were ORANGE. Starting from the tip and fading to to yellow nearer to the cuticle.
I'm sure it's likely that anyone who wears nail polish all the time has suffered the same predicament. I have worn nail polish everyday for at least 2 years now.

And here are the results of my little experiment. I would recommend this to anyone as a cheap first try if you want to banish the dreaded orange tinge.

Since then, I saw the Scholl treatment in Home Bargains for £2.99 - the lowest price I've seen it anywhere - so I purchased that too and will let you know how it goes.

For my 100th blog post, here is a list of my Top Ten manicures so far. Marina @ Forever The Ugly Duckling suggested I do a list of my Favourite 5 Konadicures and I figured now was a very good time to do so. But it was too hard to narrow it down to five so I chose ten.

They are in date order (old to new) because it was too hard to put them in order of favourites. Click on the pictures to go to the original post where there will be a clickable picture.
